Train yourself to be honest
Greetings!

“Honesty is the best policy” this assertion is a great assertion but people used to take it for granted just because of what's going on in society these days. People always think they are smart when they lie or do negative things, not knowing they are not smart at all.
Not being truthful or lying is the direct opposite of honesty and what most of the people do now is to be making or telling lies up and down, people can no longer be trusted with things such as money, power, position just to mention but a few because of their dishonesty.
Now what we are now seeing is people not being truthful to even their personal self and not to talk of others and this is really affecting the peace and the sanity of the society.
But what people don't know is that, being honest and not economical with the truth is the best thing one can do to himself and also offer to the general public or society. All the vices in our society now are as a result of the wave of dishonesty among the people. This syndrome is not limited to the younger ones alone, but to everyone but young and old.
Sometimes ago, when I was working with a firm at a particular city in Nigeria, we were sent to buy 1ton of cement which is 20bags and on getting there, bought and loaded it into our truck and as we were about to pay, the cashier asked us on what amount of money she should write on the receipt. At first, I didn't get her clearly, it's when she asked again that I then processed what she meant and it's after she's written it that I got to know that there's a reduction in the price of the cement, this was so irritating to me and I counseled the lady to stop engaging in such act as it's bad.
Also, another experience of mine has to do with the same company where I had worked, back then also, when I used to follow the truck around as the truck manager, the drivers would always lie about the litres of diesel to be used. For a trip that they will not use more than 50litres, they will demand for 75litres and i used to be like what's the meaning of this, but they would be like that's how it should be. One day I questioned one of them and told him to stop the nonsense, but on that particular day, I nearly got killed by a man on our way back home from our trip and I knew he intentionally swerved the car to my side when I was about to check the remaining fuel in the truck.
So, dishonesty has brought about great corruption which has eaten deep into the various lives and sectors of the society. But what people don't know is that there are people who are still looking for those people they can trust with their wealth and properties. Though, we still have those that are honest, but they are the minority in the society of today.
Honesty in this our time is gradually moving towards extinction and this is because, even the little ones among us now find it so difficult to speak the truth. In our educational sector which is supposed to be the most saner sector of the country, you now see pupils of primary school engaging in examination malpractices and that's how the trend has been moving from the downward side to the upward side.
Students now believe they can't pass examinations without examination malpractices. This is so saddening and serious and the end result is what we are now seen in the public space of our nation.
So, if we all want to progress as an individual and as a nation, we must all go back to the drawing board and make amends of where we have got it wrong. We should equally make a new policy and that new policy should be honesty, which is the best policy.

Also, the absence of honesty has brought about lack of trust in families, husband no longer trust his wife and vice versa, even children and parents have no trust in themselves again, family members now cheats each other at will, backbiting is everywhere and there's spike in the rate of criminal activities in the society all because of dishonesty.
We need to stand up like I said earlier and right our wrongs by being honest to our personal self first as this would go a long way in determining how we would be honest to others.
How can I be honest to myself? I can be honest to myself by not deceiving myself. You see, these days, people are no longer being honest to themselves, they lie and deceive their personal selves and want people to believe them, but even if people believe them, it would not last as their is one everyday for the thief and one day to the owner.
Also, like the popular saying in my area which says, " two people don't miss lies, if the person that you are lying to did not know, you that's lying would know." So, if you try to deceive others by you acts, then you are deceiving yourself and not others and this is even the basis of deception in our society. We should all desist from self deception and build a trusting relationship and society, let's train ourselves to be honest as this is the best policy that will make the society a better place.

Truly, in today time people are ignoring values like honesty as if it has no importance and your personal experiences have shown how even small dishonesties can hollow out the society from within and as you said until we are not honest with ourselves we cannot be honest with others either. Thanks for sharing this blog.d
Lying is not only a bad habit, but it is also the root of many evils. If a person keeps lying, people will start to feel bad about it. If anyone talks, people will not trust him, and they will consider him a liar. Therefore, you should avoid lying. If you are in trouble, if you ask someone for help, they will not help you because they will think that this person is also lying and does not need help.
You really issues of great concern here. People lie a lot these days which makes it look as if truth has gone extinction. One need to girdle himself with honesty and truth.
