The unexpected loss

Being yourself is always the best that can happen to anyone on earth and as for me, I have always been myself as I have always taken big and bold decisions on my own.

One of those bold and big decisions was doing big businesses that people wouldn't even think of. Also, I have also taken the bold decision of sending myself to school when parents were so reluctant to send me to school.

But over time, I began to lose my resolve to stay firm in my personal decisions. This started when a friend of mine, Eben, came to me and introduced his own business to me. He said,

“I have this business idea. I'd like you to give it a trial.” “What business idea is that?” I asked. “It's the same business I'm doing, the POS business,” he said. “But I don't have any knowledge of it,” I said. “Don't worry, I will put you through,” he replied. ‘Okay, I'll consider it,” I said.

Eben continued and said, “I know you would do well in the business as you're already thriving in the one you are currently doing.” “Okay, I would give it a trial,” I replied.

So, after what he had told me, we fixed a date for our next meeting which would also include him teaching me on how to operate a Pos machine and also, how to carry out transactions on the same machine.

However, immediately he left, I took my phone and I started surfing the internet to know more about the business. While surfing the internet, I discovered that the business is lucrative. Though, people also shared the other side of the business on the internet but the testimonies were more than the other side of the business on the internet.

Immediately I saw this on the internet, I was so happy to have been introduced to the business by a friend and without wasting much time, I called Eben and when he answered the call I greeted and asked him saying,

“Eben, thanks for the other day, please can we shift the agreed time of our meeting and teaching backward?” ‘Why not?” He asked. “Okay, thanks,” I thanked him. “When do you want us to start?” he asked. “Tomorrow,” I answered. “Tomorrow won't be possible as I have a personal assignment to do,” he said. “But what of the day after tomorrow?” I asked. “Yeah, that would be better,” he said. “We will see on the said date, bye,” he said.

So, immediately I dropped the call, I went back online to check more testimonies of people who have really made it through the Pos business and I was amazed, waiting for my own time to come.

Before long, the day we fixed for the meeting and the teaching arrived and I was so happy to witness this turnaround moment of my business career. I didn't call ahead, I just headed to Eben’s place and when I got to his place, he didn't waste my time, he just got down to the business of the day which was teaching.

He started the teaching with me and taught me how to handle the machine and also carried out transactions on the machine. Aside from this, he also taught me the rudiment of the business which is off machine rudiments. This teaching took us almost a day, but thankfully I learned it all. It's after this that I appreciated him and said,

“Eben, thanks for the teaching, God bless you.” “You're welcome,” he replied. “I think I'm now good to good?” I asked. “Sam, you're good to go, just that you must be very careful while carrying out the transactions,” he said. “There's no problem about that, since I would be the one doing it myself for now,” I said. “I wish you best of luck,” he said. “Thanks,” I replied.

The next day, I started my own business in my rented shop where I had previously sold foodstuffs. Thank God I already have what resources needed to start the business which is money. Though my first day was a bit rocky, I tried my best not to make any mistakes with 10 transactions to my credit.

The following day, the third day, I improved on my transaction and I did 17 transactions. On this particular day, I was so happy and excited about the improvement that took place in my new business. I called Eben and said,

“Thank you for showing me the way.” and he replied, “it's my pleasure.”

So, I hung up the call and throughout that week, there's a rapid improvement in the business. The final day of the week, which was on Saturday, was the best day of my POS business transactions for the week as I did 47 transactions on this particular day alone.

On Sunday, which was the day after Saturday, I went out when it's the testimony time at church just to show my sincere appreciation to God for the good things he has started in my life.

So, after the service on Sunday, I went to the bank to withdraw from the ATM stand and went back home to rest and prepare for the next day.

In the process, I had shifted my focus from the foodstuff business to the POS business.

Furthermore, on Monday, I dressed up very early in the morning more than usual and went to shop and on this same day also I made profit on all the transactions I made, but not as of Saturday, but I still made my gain.

But on Tuesday, something unexpected happened. On this Tuesday, I went to shop as early as possible as this had now become my daily routine since I started the business, but on getting to shop and after I have done many transactions something happened towards the evening. A new customer came to me and asked if I have a sum of 179k cash at hand. I told him I didn't have any but I would try to borrow from people around to make it 179k as I only have 124k with me.

When I told him this, he said no problem and he immediately asked for my account which I gave to him. In no time, he sent the money to me and I received the alert but before then, I went round to gather the money which I did with ease. After I had collated all the money with what I have, I gave him the money and he took the bike and left.

However, immediately after he left, I decided to transfer the money collected from other people around me to them, but as I was trying to transfer to the first person, I received a message saying, “insufficient funds.” When I got the message, I thought it's the network, and I decided to wait for sometime. But while waiting, I decided to check my bank App. It's when I checked my bank App that I realized that what the man did to me in the form of a transfer was a fake alert.

When I saw this, I was devastated and frustrated, but it was too late as the scammer had already left. I was devastated by this and I could not even call Eben, a friend who introduced me to the business since he had warned me to be careful before I started the business.

So, because of this, I stopped the business and focused on my already known business, though the loss affected me, but instead of staying idle, I fall back on what I was known for before the POS business and gradually, I'm getting back on track.
