The anchor man || my first outing

Greetings!

Recently, I was invited by a woman to come and help her to come and anchor her small birthday party, but at first I was reluctant to honor her invitation just because I was not sure of my capacity to anchor such a program. So, I told the woman

“Mummy, I'm not sure of my coming to the program.” I said, ‘Why?” She asked, “ I have not anchored any program before ma,” I replied, “what of the one I saw you doing at your school principal's retirement a few months ago?” the woman asked, “has, that's my first time ma and it's an in house party ma.” I replied, "then mine too is an in house party and I will be expecting you.” she said authority and hung the call.

Having hung the call, I went straight to continue writing my lesson note, but I noticed I couldn't write it further even as I was trying to clear my mind from the conversation that had demoralized me. It's in my state of mind while I was having a deep thought with myself that I remember bro ade who's an expert in that field.

Though he's not in our school, his own place of work is not too far from mine. So, I went to meet him. On getting there, I met him anchoring a program which happened to be a retirement/birthday party. So, I signalled to him to show my arrival and he asked me to exercise patience by signaling back to me. After the program, he came to where I was and we exchanged greetings. After which i said,

“Bro Ade, I have come here to seek your help.” “Hope there's no problem?” he asked, “ there's no problem, but there's still a problem.” I said. “Then, what's the matter?” He asked again,

It's this last question that prompted me to tell him what I was into, I told him what the woman said and how the woman has entrusted me to anchor her birthday program.

“Then there's no problem my brother.” He said, “ How sir?” I asked, he said,” you can do it as long as you believe in yourself, nothing is so special about it as you can see how i anchored the recent one you met me on.”

Immediately he finished talking, I began to gain back my confidence and my self belief began to wax stronger and I also saw nothing too much in anchoring a birthday party program. It's even after his words of encouragement that I saw the invitation of the woman as a golden opportunity.

“Thank you sir for your words of encouragement.” I thanked him, “ you're welcome bro.” He replied.

So, after saying my words of appreciation, I left his school and went back to my own place of work with full confidence and immediately I got to school. I was already planning for the event which was in three day’s time. I called the and said,

“Mummy, please send me all the needed information and details of the program.” And within a twinkle of an eye, the woman sent it and I went through it.

The woman called back and asked, “ have you seen the order of the program sent to you?” “Yes ma, I have seen it.” I replied. “We will meet on Sunday at 1pm.” she said.

So, throughout the weekend, I was busy watching videos on YouTube to get a glimpse of how such a program is being anchored and could also be anchored and this really helped me in my preparation for the event.

“Where are you?” The mama asked when she called to know my whereabouts on Sunday afternoon. “I'm on my way ma, I just left church and I will be there very soon.” I replied. “ I will be expecting you as people are already gathered here to celebrate with me.” Said the woman. “Just give me 10 minutes ma, I will be there.” I said.

So, immediately I got dropped the call, I stopped a bike that took me to the venue of the program and at the venue, people were already gathered, though it took me less down 10 minutes to get to the place, but I could see disappointment in the face of the celebrant.

“ Why are you just coming?” The celebrant asked, “I'm so sorry ma, it's because of the unforeseen circumstances that happened on my way.” I replied, “okay no problem, go and get the program started.” she said.

When I heard this from her, I was a little bit shocked and anxious as I didn't really know how to get the program started, though, I was given the order of program, but being my first time of anchoring such an event, I was a little bit scared, but one thing I know was that, today na today, so, i looked into the program of events and I got the program started, though, it's a little bit rough and tough at the start, but as time went by, I became confidence and was happy to anchor the program.

“Sam, you're weldone,” the celebrant came to whisper to my ear as the program continued. “Thanks ma.” I replied.

This show of appreciation got to me and strengthened the more to perform my duty as I stopped fidgeting around, it's really an energy booster to me.

So, not quite long, we gradually moved to the end of the program, and it's at the end of the program that people were coming to collect my contact information for future events, though I went to the event as a novice but came back as a superstar.

“Thanks so much, Sam, you really did well.” she said, “Thank you for the golden opportunity ma.” I replied to her. “But why did you say you've not been doing this when I first called you back then?” she asked, “mummy, seriously it's not me, but for God that took control of the event and my tongue.” I said. “Then you've started on a brighter note and I will enjoin you to keep it up.” The celebrant said. “I will,” I replied.

So, this our conversation brought the whole process to an end and I went home filled with so much joy in my heart. It's really a lifetime experience for me that I would not forget in a rush. So, those events got my MC's career started and since then, I have got to do more programs from the connection I got from my first outing.

Thanks for reading.

Pictures are mine.

It is normal to be afraid of nerves the first time we do something. The idea is to do it, despite the fear and gain confidence, as happened in your case. Regards

hello @samolaj. It's not clear which prompt you may be responding to; it appears therefore to be an off-prompt piece. You clearly have deep feelings that you like to express in your writing, and that is nice to see. If I can offer one key bit of advice though. We have noticed that you don't appear to edit your work before submitting it to the community. Catching spelling errors, and issues with grammar and punctuation through light editing, really would make your writing flow better and increase the level of curation. Your dialogue can be a little confusing to read as your punctuation around your dialogue tags is incorrect and makes it unclear who is speaking. Your story would also benefit from preserving dialogue for conversation that progresses the plot, rather than describing more mundane social interactions.
