Salary negotiation: Going for the best

Greetings!

Source
Making ends meet in life is one of the major reasons we work. Had it been without work, we can still live the kind of life we want, whereby we have everything in abundance, maybe most of the people that work would not have engaged themselves in any form of labour. But because of the anxieties of life, we found ourselves even doing more work than expected of us.

Like I said earlier, one major reason we work is to make ends meet. i.e the major reason we work is to be able to provide for all our needs and also meet our rising demands which is normal in every sense.

But one thing is that, whenever we want to start up a job, being it private or public job, one thing that's very important is the issue of salary and this is the pay that comes with the service we have rendered or the one we will render after being employed and this in most cases comes in the form
of money.

Now, with the salary making up 99% of the reason we apply for a job, negotiating how to be paid when employed into a company or organization should be the first thing after one has passed both the aptitude test and the interview for the job.

And in the view of this, there's factors to be considered when negotiating how the salary structure should be as an employee of an organization or company.
Now, some of the factor I personally would consider when negotiating my pay with my employer are as stated:

The first is my personal factor which would have to do with my personal expenses. Going into the salary negotiation table, the first thing I would first put into proper consideration is my personal value which has to do with my experience, skills, level of education and achievement. This when put into proper consideration would not make me go for less or accept the less from my potential employer.

Not only this, I would also consider my financial needs. This second aspect is of utmost importance when negotiating what my pay would be after being employed by my employer. The reason I said that this is of utmost importance is because this is the main reason for me wanting to work. How? This has to do with my expenses, my financial obligations etc. So, not considering it will do me more harm than good.

Also, my long term goal would also shape my negotiation when it comes to my pay when employed by my intended employers. This is because, human want is insatiable and for me to make progress and not be static, I will always want the best for myself and settling for less would be out of my options to making progress in life. So, this too will be considered.

But, after all these personal factors, one other factor that would have a say in my salary negotiation is the current market rate. This is because, not considering may render what you think you are earning useless at the end. The company budget and the standard of the company are the other factors to be considered by me when negotiating my salary structure with my intended employers.

The nature of the job to be done would also play a pivot role in my salary negotiation. If it's a job that would take all my time, I would not negotiate for less. There's even some job that has to do with life. If it's kind of a job, seriously what I would place before my intended employers would be something that worth it. Though, if they try to negotiate with me, I would also consider the company budget too.

So, these are the factors that I personally would consider at the negotiating table with my potential employer. Though, there's other things to be considered most especially as it affects the company, but the one mentioned as it concerns me are of utmost importance at the negotiating table.

This is my entry to the hivenaija weekly prompt.

Thanks for reading.

Your personal experience and value you will give a company should be considered while negotiating salary. It's also good that you consider expenses surrounding the job including the time to be consumed.
