My parameters of a good music

Like I used to say, music is one particular thing that used to give me life and joy. So, for this reason, music to me is more than a song, lyrics or melody. It's far far beyond beat and rhythm to me but life and that's why I used to say, “Music is life.”

So, my own definition of music is as simple as life. But that's not where I'm even going when it comes to the definition of good music as stated by the topic of the prompt before us this week. But before I delve into the topic and my own definition of good music today, I will want to shout out to our muslim brothers and sisters on the occasion of the Salah celebration. Eid Kabir to all of them.

Having said something about music and what it means to me, let me go straight to what's before me this week. To me, when talking about the definition of good music, I would start by saying all music or songs are good.

There's no bad music to me at all and this is because, for a musician to sit down somewhere and compose a song, it's a job well done, even if the inspiration of a song is being received on stage or anywhere without sitting down somewhere to compose it, it's still a good song to me. This is because it takes great grace and effort to bring words together to make lyrics and then song.

Also, singing with good rhythm and rhymes to beats being played by the instrumentalist is not something easy and for this reason, I always give kudos to singers for their creativity when it comes to singing to beats whenever they are producing their song or on stage.

But, having said that all music is good, there's some special cases and parameters that make music or song to be a good one to me. These days, there are songs being put in place or brought forward by songwriters that are not up to standard or let me better put it this way, there's songs that are not living up to my expectations. These kinds of songs to me are not bad, but not up to my own standard.

As for me, there's three things that make a song good to me. The first one is the lyrics of the song, the song one is the beat of the song and the third thing that makes a good music to me is the composure of the artist. Though, if I would add to it, I would like to add the message being passed across by the lyrics of the song as one of my own parameters of a good music. All these parameters I would briefly explain in this write up.

The first parameter, which is the lyric of a song, is very important to me in my determination of good music. This is because, if the lyrics of a song are empty, then there's no need for me to listen to nor rate the song as a good one. The lyrics of a song is the body of a song as it contains the message of the song and if a song lacks proper and clear message, then such a song should not be regarded as a good song or music. So, the lyrics of a song are more dear to me than any other part or aspect of the music.

Secondly, the beat of a song is another parameter that gives me joy. Though, what we now listen to now is the beat and not the content of the song, but as for me, both the content which comprises the lyrics and the beat of a song must be well presented to the listener or the audience before I can rate the song as a good song. The rhythm of the song and the beat must go hand in hand before I can say the song is a good song. Without that, the music to me would be rated as zero. I love a good beat coupled with good content.

Another parameter that would make me rate a music or song as good as anything else is the composure of the singer. Though, most of our musicians are trying in this aspect. Even if their songs are nothing to write home about, they still manage to compose themselves and carry their listener along. I love that for them. So, a singer must be able to compose and present himself very well to the listener before I could rate his or her song good.

Lastly, the fourth parameter which I have added to the parameters is that of the message of the song. Though when talking about the message of the song, people will think it's all about the lyrics of the song as I have stated earlier, but to be sincere with us, when talking about the message of a song, it's beyond lyrics but how the body language plus the dressing of the singer resonated with the listener and the viewer of the song. So, the message should be of good manners before the song can be regarded as a good song.

Though, like I said earlier, all music is good and the goodness of a song can differ from one person to the other. But in my own definition of good music. All the aforementioned parameters must be in place to score a song as the best one in town.
