Mathematics|| when grasping seems impossible

Greetings!

One thing that has always been easy for me in life is to understand something with ease. In fact, grasping has been one of those things that people around me have always cherished me for, but even at that, there's one thing that I have always found difficult to understand with ease, or grasp at my own convenience.

Though, when I was in my primary school, I was good in every one of my school subjects, but, there's one subject that has always proved difficult for me to understand and that subject is mathematics.

I could remember back then and in particular that I was being taught mathematics by my mum who was a mathematics teacher. Then, she tried to explain everything I needed to know about the HCF to me, but all was to no avail. In fact, I told her that I don't know the subject and immediately I uttered that statement. I received a dirty slap from her for my negative statements.

So, after that, she took me to a mathematics home lesson teacher, but even with all her efforts, I could not even perform up to her expectations, but managed to pass the subject in my common entrance examination.

So, when I got to my secondary school, I tried my best to work hard and positioned myself for a better performance in the mathematics subject, but lo and behold, the same fate that befell me in my secondary days also got to me in my junior secondary school classes, but there's a well I used to manage and maneuver my way through each of my classes from Jss 1 to Jss 3.

So, after my junior secondary school exam and when the result was released, I realized that I didn't do well in my mathematics result, but even at that, I opted to go to the science class where we have physics, chemistry and even further mathematics that required immense calculations.

When I took this decision, I was advised by our school counselor to go to the art class where there's no calculation, but i turned deaf ear to his advice and went on with my plan, but on getting to the science, I realized I couldn't cope with anything calculation and in lieu of that, I withdrew myself to the art class and dropped my ambition of becoming a civil engineer. Though this was not easy, since I cannot grasp and cope with calculation, I changed to pursuing another career path of studying law.

Also, my inability to grasp anything calculation cost me to becoming the senior prefect boy of my school. Though, I was good in all other subjects, but because of my bad performance in mathematics as a subject which was due to my inability to grasp the concept of the subject very well, my mathematics teacher who was the head of the committee that's in charge of selecting the school prefect ruled me out of the position of the head prefect boy and instead gave to me the assistance senior prefect. This was painful, but I just have to accept the fact that I was not that qualified to be the senior prefect boy.

So, if there's anything too difficult for me to grasp, it's mathematics as a subject. Though, there's some topics I'm very good at, but 90% of the topics which includes indices, logarithm, sequence, simultaneous equations and the likes are the topics that were too difficult for me to grasp and this my inability to grasp these topics at a fast rate really cost me my head prefect position and also my long term future ambition which is to become a civil engineer.
