Listening, a good habit
Greetings!
Habit which is the regular action of the individual is one thing that cannot be taken easily out of man. Though, the day to day action of a man used to form his or her habit and when this habit is being formed, it mostly comes out in two different forms which on one side might be good and on other hand bad.
Almost everyone has his or her good side or habit, likewise, almost everyone has their bad side as well. Atimes, the good side is the strength of a man and the bad side the weakness of a man.
So, delving into one of the prompts in the hiveghana weekly prompt, which is about habit, I would say there's this habit I have just imbibed that has really been of help to me. This habit has really helped me to improve on myself and even build relationships with others.
This just imbibed habit of mine is building my listening skills. In recent times, I have really built my listening skills and this has really saved me from being endanger as this has really revealed impending dangers to me. But before then, I have not always listened to people and what I used to do is to do things my own way.
But sometimes ago, during my university days, a friend of mine came to our hostel while we were having this heated but educational arguments in our room, but instead of listening to what others were saying, I was busy arguing with them blindly without even giving a listening ear to what they were saying.
So, after the whole heated but constructive argument, that friend of mine, Femi that came visiting who was there but never alter a word during the argument was about to leave and as he was leaving, I decided to see him off and in the course of seeing him off, we both were having our own friend to friend discussion and it's in the discussion that he told me that he had learnt a lot from our heated argument.
When he said this, I was confused and asked him, “What have you learnt?” He said I have learnt many things. He said, I have learnt to always listen more than to speak, he said he would have joined the discussion, but that a spirit just came upon him and he just decided not to say anything and he said by him not saying anything, he learnt so much lesson about the discussed topic which is all about self belief.
So, having heard this from him, I decided to build on my listening skill and this has really helped me more in relating with people. Secrets had been leaked to me via my listening skills and the right connection had also been made via my listening ear.
This is my entry to the hiveghana weekly prompt.
Thanks for reading.
