It's a matter of time

Gaining admission into the university for me was so difficult as I would not be admitted no matter my score. It's not that I failed any of my exams, but making the cutoff mark was like a war of Jericho for me to overcome. Then, it's one thing to pass an exam and another to gain admission. Without meeting the cut off point, it would be difficult to be admitted. No wonder I got disturbed and lamented saying,

“ I'm tired, I don't think I will write this exam again.” When my mum heard me saying this out loud, she interrupted me and said, “ Sam, don't be tired, you will soon gain entrance into the university, don't be bothered, it's a matter of time.”

So, after I heard a word of encouragement from her, I gathered myself together to prepare for the next exam. In my preparation for the next exam, I made sure I burnt my night candles and crossed my T’s and dotted my I's. Though it's not easy, because of my determination to succeed in life, I took it upon myself to take responsibility for my actions. There's days I sleep off while reading and there's days I delay eating my food on time.

“ Why are you not eating your lunch?” Said my mum. “ Mummy I will eat, just give me time.”

This was my way of life during the time I was preparing for the exam and like I said earlier, it's that convenient, but I have made it a point of duty knowing fully well that it's just for a time being.

Aside from denying myself of eating as and when due and not sleeping in time, I also denied my association with friends.

“ Sam, we need to see.” Said Ray. “ Ray, I won't be available for now as I'm preparing for my next exam.” I replied. When he heard my response, he was not so happy with it, but he just had to bear with me.

So, not quite long, the exam day came and I went for the exam. But before I went for the exam, my mum called me to her room and prayed for me saying,

“Sam, as you are going for this exam, I pray that God will give you a retentive memory to pass your exam.” I responded by saying “Amen!”

After this, I left for the exam venue and right at the venue, i met other candidates there and most of them i have not met before, but we all related well. One even came to me and greeted me.

“ Hi guy, what's your name and what's your school and course of choice?” “My name is Samson and my choice of school is UI and my choice of course is Law.” When he heard this, he was excited and exclaimed “ that's my school of choice too, but my choice of course is English Language. “ “Wow, that's good.”

But before we could finish our discussion, it's time for the exam. We all went in for the exam and after the exam I was looking for him, but could see him again. This pained me to the marrow and this is because I have not asked for his name and we have not even exchanged our contacts. So, I left the place unfulfilled.

On getting home, I met my mum who had prepared me a delicious meal of my favorite.

“Sam, how was your exam?” Asked my mum, “ mummy the exam was fine, in fact, it's like a revision for me.” I replied. “Really!” She exclaimed, “Yes mum” “thank God you did it well, I wish you best of luck.” She said,

Afterwards, I went to take a shower in the bathroom and come and feed on the prepared food.

So, for the next one week, I took my rest and I was relieved of the burden that came with the preparation for the exam.

“ It's indeed a great relief.” Said my mum when she came to my room and found me sleeping.

So, a week later, the result of the exam came out and I was among those who passed the exam with flying colors.

“ wow! I passed, victory at last, with this I should've been able to beat the cutoff this time around. “ was what I screamed out at the cafe after I had checked the result.

After checking the result, I quickly rushed home and on getting home, I broke the good news to my mum who couldn't contain her joy as she screamed to the hearing of everyone in the neighborhood.

“ congratulations sam,” she said, “ thank you for all your support ma” I replied.

Immediately after that, she said, “ this call for celebration.” She asked me what I wanted and I said nothing, but she insisted by taking me out shopping and it's late before we could get back home. So, when we got back home, we went straight to bed to rest.

Not quite long, I started preparing for the next hurdle before me and it's at the venue that I met the guy I had previously met at the jamb venue, immediately I sighted him, I shouted

“ Hey you.” He could not even hear me calling him, so I rushed to meet him and tapped him at his back, so he turned back and was happy to see me. I told him I could not see you again the other day. We exchange our contacts and I asked for his name which he said,

“ I'm Bernard by name.” “wow! It's nice to meet you again.” “It's my pleasure,” he said.

So, after our conversation, we departed and left for our various venues of the exams on the University campus. Though I didn't see him after the exam, I left the campus happier than the last one I did without locating my new found friend.

On the same day, the result of the exam came out and I also scaled through the second hurdle to gaining admission into the university. I was happy for the milestone and lo and behold, when the admission process started, I was given admission to study my course of choice at the university of my choice. Though this didn't come on a platter of gold, it was hard earned as I beat the cutoff to my course of choice by a wide margin. And guess what, my friend Bernard also got admitted into the university and now we are best of friends.
