Health tax and its effect
Greetings!

“Smokers are liable to die young.” This is the inscription labeled on the carton that contains cigarettes in my area and what this really means is that there's a health issue attached to the above assertion.
Also, how people take alcoholic drinks in this part of the country is without measure. Atimes, people take it for fun and at other times, they take it to take away their sorrow which will always return back to them after the intake of the alcoholic drink. But the most shocking thing is that some people even use this alcoholic intake as a means of competition. I have seen where people bet their money on who can take more alcoholic drinks than the other.
All these and many more are the way people in this part of the world take these things both for pleasure and to take away their sorrow. Also, the competition aspect of it is of utmost importance to those that take it in.
But, my own question is that, should heavy tax be placed on these products just to stop people from taking them? My own answer to this question is a YES and NO answer.
Now, let me start with the YES part of the question. Now, to voice my support for taxing these products, I would say that placing heavy tax on these products would seriously help to reduce the way they're being consumed by the people and this is because not many people would be able to afford the buying of these products without taking it.
For instance, most of the people taking these products are not the rich in society and because of the cheap price of these products, most of them go for it and even consume it to stupor, unlike cocaine that is expensive. The high price of the cocaine would not even allow people to take it anyhow.
So, like I have said earlier, if the price of these products is increased by the manufacturer due to heavy taxation, then there would be reduction in the number of consumers of these alcoholic products and cigarettes and when this happens, it will reduce the health hazards attached to it.

But, if I should take the other side and oppose the placement of heavy tax on these alcoholic products and cigarettes, I would like to say that placing the heavy taxes on this product would even bring more damage to the individual and the society at large. The reason for this is that, most of the manufacturers would reduce the standard of their production by using those materials that are not of high quality to produce the products and when this happens, it could cause more damage to the health system of those people that consume it.
Not only that, even if the manufacturers didn't reduce their standard of production and sell at the high price rate to the people that take it, then there would be more trouble and chaos in the society than ever as most of those addicts would go to any length to source for money to get these products and when this happens, the society and the their families would be the one to bear the brunt.
So, the bottom line is that, if heavy tax is being placed on these product, it will help to sanitize the society and our health system, but if on the other way round it's not placed on these products, then, the assertion that, “ smokers or drinkers are liable to die young.” Would surely take its place among us.

We must focus on raising awareness and informing people. It is not just about increasing the prices of these products, but we must see the problem as a whole. One measure alone will not work. We must have a set of measures that will make people, especially young people, aware sooner of the harmful effects of consuming these products.
Focusing on raising awareness among young people is betting on a better future for humanity.
