Family and friends and their privileges
Greetings!
Almost everyone has enjoy one thing or the other that they doesn't really worked for. This unearned benefit are always there for us in one way or the other without us taking note of it as something important. At times we take those unearned benefits for granted due to our ignorance towards it or betterstill, due to our it's my right mentality which is not in most cases, the best way of seeing this benefits come our ways.
This unearned benefits can also be said to be privileges which in one way or the other has helped to come this far. It's might be because of our family ties, friendship or the relationship we have with our co-workers that has brought us this kind of privileges we are talking about.
As for someone like me, I have really enjoyed some kind of privileges that I cannot just take for granted. Though, back then, when I was enjoying all those privileges, I thought it was normal, but it's later in life that I got to know that those things I benefited from was not actually my right in the real sense of it, but a rare privilege.
Though my parents weren't that rich, nor well educated, one thing I really enjoyed from being their first child and son is my access to good and quality education.
Like I said earlier, I was always of the opinion that this was my right, which I might be correct about in some quarters, but it's later in life that I realized it's not actually my right. This I got to know with the extra effort being put in place by my parents to send me to good private school, I mean one of the best in town and getting all the necessary materials, such as books and other writing materials for me. Even though they were not rich, I was never sent home as a school fee defaulter throughout my primary and secondary school education.
Also, when it comes to feeding in my family. We never carry last, as we always eat good food. In my family, we have the rare privilege of eating as a king, so, seeing rich people eating the best food doesn't really matter to us, as we are also of the great privilege of eating good food.
But one of those privileges that amazed me most, was the one I got from one of our family friends. Though, my parents really tried their best to giving me the best of education which I counted as my privilege number one, but the student death of my mum could not let me enjoy this privilege I got from them till the end.
So, when I lost my mum to the cold hand of death, a friend of my dad, who is based abroad, stepped in to taking care of all my academic bills when I got to the university. He did this right from my year one to the final years. Though, I thought I was indebted to him, but anytime I tried to thank him for helping and seeing it as a privilege and not my right, this man would asked me not to thank me and if it's my dad, he would have done more than that for his children too.
Also, friend and colleagues at work has helped me to solve my problems whenever I'm into one. A friend of mine shola came to my help when I lost my investments sometimes ago. He came to my aid by lending money without any interest in it. Though people might think what are friends for? But not all friends can do what he did for me. I have always got this guy back just because of our friendship. Such is actually life
So, both family and friends have really come to give me the undeserved privileges that I would have enjoyed because of the tie I have with them. They have always been my support system and taking this for granted would be a great sin and mistake on my part.
This is my entry to the hiveghana weekly prompt.
Thanks for reading.
Picture is mine.
Shola is really a nice person for lending you that money in the first place. Not everyone will even do that.
