Education||Helping in my own little way
Greetings!
One thing that needed much attention in my environment is education. But before I start to write about the educational situation in my environment and the solution thereof, I would like to first and foremost say a big congratulations to the hivenaija community on this special occasion of the 2nd year anniversary. I pray we will all witness more of it,(amen)
So, still in the mood for the 2nd year anniversary celebration, I would like to talk about the educational situation in my locality. But before then, I would want us to know that for a society to progress with a better future, education is needed, but when education is being handled with levity, then such a society is sitting on a keg of gun power that would soon explode.
The society I belong to here is a society that has no interest in education at all. Both the parents and the children in my community have this kind of a lackadaisical attitude towards learning and this act is really drawing everyone in the society backward.
I could remember the teachers begging some of the students to come and write their promotional examination. If these people were not begged, they would not even come to school at all. That's the situation we have found ourselves in my local community.
Though, when I first got to this my present school, everything was bad and the system was nothing to write home about as both the teacher and the students were almost the same with the teachers not also coming to school regularly and if they were to come also, they would come late.
So, when I got here, I made sure I led by exam and aside from this, I also made sure I moved close to some of the teachers and gave them reasons why we teachers should be a good model to the students. After meeting with some of the teachers that are approachable and gaining their support, I decided to move round the classes to meet with all the students telling them the need for them to change and turn a new leaf towards their primary assignment which is teaching, and to my surprise, some of them starting from the following day changed for better.
But this is not an easy pissy thing as I too need to pay the price. The first thing I did was to organize an early morning tutorial for them promising the first 20 students that a sum of 100naira each. When they heard this, they all came early the following day and to my greatest surprise and the surprise of the school management, more than fifty students came on time, but the first 20 were given the 20 naira I promised them.
So, that was how things began to change for good in the school and now, the rest is history as the school has changed from what it used to be to getting better day by day.
Aside from this, another thing I did to bring a lasting solution to the poor performances of the students was to give them a prize at the end of a session. These students were not used to this system before I came to the school, but ever since I came, things had changed and the healthy rivalry and competition among the students have increased and also, the level of their seriousness has moved from the bottom to the top due to my mode and system of motivating them which they have not experienced before.
Part of my mode of motivation is to pay for the best students in the SS3 class Waec fee and for other classes, I used to motivate them by giving them writing materials, school uniforms and bags just to make them have interest in learning and education which is the key to the rise of a society.
In conclusion, these and many more are my own little contributions to the resuscitation of the moribund educational system in my community and I thank God things are gradually taking their due course.
Happy anniversary.
Thanks for reading.
The pictures are mine.
Like seriously ? That's even serious to know that the students don't value their exams....and that means they don't also understand the importance of educations and the need to study.
Well, glad things are taking shape now but I feel they still need their eyes to open to the values of education so they can be intentional
Your motivation tactics seems to be working ..
Weldone !
Thank you sir
I am not Sir oo
Lol
That’s bad. Begging students to come to school? Well, this attitude towards education starts from our elders I guess. Well done on bringing change and transformation to this school. Thank you for joining the contest.
Thank you so much for your comments.
