Consequences of April fool

The phrase April fool which is always used on the 1st of April every year is a strong word which was meant to be a mere prank on people, but it's now more than a prank as some people have fallen victim to the end result of this prank.

The reason we now have victims to what's supposed to be a mere prank is that some people who are making the prank now go to the extreme and when things now go out of hand, to now bring remedy to it would be difficult.

Like I said earlier, April fool is something that should be a mere joke or prank, but it turned out to be otherwise.

As to the topic of the prompt which is about april fool, the word fool in the phrase is to me a prank of other people, fooling them most of the times about what they think they love or cherish most or about their expectations and the April in that phrase is just telling us about the timing of the event which is always on the 1st of April. Though people can be fooled at any other time, this one is a special one.

I have been fooled and I have also fooled people on this special day of 1st of April which has been marked for fooling people, but my own kind of April fool has always been playing pranks on people's minds and not to the extreme. So, I would like to share my little experience about the April fool incident that I was a victim of, though not a bad one, but It caught me unaware and I fell for it.

It's in the year 2016 when I was seeking admission into the university, though I have applied to my school of choice, but the admission list was yet to be release, so, because of this, I was eagerly waiting for the list to be release and back then, the list was always pasted on the notice board of the different faculties unlike now when you can check via the jamb or school portal, but then it's always pasted on the notice board.

Though, I wouldn't have fallen a victim of the prank which was orchestrated by Femi, a friend of mine who was as at that time a 200l student of the school, but because of my earnest expectation of being admitted into the school, Femi planned and played his pranked script on me and I fell for it.

Before then, I have been a serial candidate of the school, it's my fourth application to the school, and for this reason I was so expectant as to what would be the outcome of my fourth trial and on the 1st of April, 2016 which was on a friday, Femi called me very early in the morning to congratulates me on my admission to the great citadel of learning and when the new broke out from him, I was happy and I screamed that I woke everyone that's asleep.

It's as early as 5am in the morning. Immediately he hung up, I went to my mum's room to break the news of my admission to her and she also was happy, thanking God that I have finally made it to the university after several years of trial. Not only this, my dad was also happy for me and I was given a nice treatment that morning. Less I forget , Femi did not only call me, he also sent a text message to me congratulating me on the new feat and I was happy.

So, when the inhouse celebration was over, I decided to call him back just to thank him for being a good friend and also to ask him about the needed things to do after the list had been released. But it's upon calling him that he said “ April Fool.” I couldn't believe my ear when I heard him saying April fool. I even thought I was dreaming as I hung up the call to wipe my ear and eyes and immediately I did that, I called him back and it's the same response, I was so angry and weak. What would I tell my parents now? Was the question that came to my mind. I was so angry with Femi, but there's nothing I could do as he has been the one helping with the admission processes.

So, later in the day, I went to meet my parents and narrated everything to them. They were at first angry, but later, they encouraged me not to give up, but not long after, I was offered admission and the rest was history. That's one of my April Fool's experiences.
