A briefcase of hope: What would be my sole decision?
Greetings!

The saying “opportunity knocks but once” is a good one and to be sincere with us, not all opportunities are real opportunities as some are only meant to mar us if we're not careful.
In my view, anything that doesn't belong to me and I have known this since when I was young as my parents have taught us that anything not given to you is not yours.
Therefore, with this in my mind, I would say that, if on my way to my minimum wage job, I found a suitcase of fortune, the first thing I would do is to report it to the agency in charge of lost things, which is the police in my own country.
Although, I'm very sure that the police system in my country is corrupt and may not even deliver the money to appropriate quarters or persons. But since I know that the money is not mine, I would make sure I deliver the money to the police by reporting to them when and where I found the money.
I wouldn't care or bother on whether the money is delivered to the rightful owner or not as I would have done my own part and leave the rest to them to do what's right and if they choose to do the wrong thing, God will surely judge them and I would know that my own hand is free.

Aside from this, if the person is now made known via public service announcement on the radio or television or through any medium, that means the burden of looking for whom to handle the money over to is already done and settled for me. The only thing I would do in such a situation is to find him and deliver the money to such a person. I wouldn't mind how corrupt the person is, that's none of my business.
Also, I would not be expectant of what the man would do for me as this could lead to disappointment. So, instead of expecting something in return from him, I would free my mind and if he eventually give me something I would appreciate it but if not, I will not take it against such a person.
However, in all this, one thing I wouldn't do is let people around me know as this may hinder my honesty. I have done something like this before, though not as huge as $500,000, but I think I can free my mind from such with what I have learnt from my parents as to not to take what doesn't belong to us and still maintain my stance and be honest.
In conclusion, just because someone else is wrong, doesn't mean I should be as I know that people would be like it's a stolen or embezzled money that should not be returned, but if we are all like that, nothing will change about our society.
