Music is nonsense now said one of our co-passengers in a bus as we were listening to one of the latest music from this new cat in the music industry. His words are Nigerian slang which means that music of this days can't be motivational and inspirational like the musical composition of decades ago where artists and other music professionals spent a whole years in the studio for great tunes and classical lyrics that shakes one's whole body, spirit and soul.

Although not all these recent musical composure is bad and unmotivated, some of them are great and their artists are still talented but majority of these songs are complete flops and lacks some basis to be considered great music. These recent music sounds similar and uniform in their themes. Although they are supported by superior and latest technologies which makes people jump around, but there's still a lot missing and reasons why I still prefer those music of 90's. Let's compare them in these three main areas.

Tunes And Vibes.

Computer and other latest technologies have great impact on the world of music. Virtually every instrument and their tunes are recorded and can be mixed perfectly for wonderful musical tunes and vibes. Although it should be a blessing but it have causes brain drains and lack of creativity in the world of music. For example, A popular Nigerian musician, Fela and his Egyptian band are known for their talents and skills in production of wonderful tunes with several musical instruments present, they are very creative and highly inspiring so that their songs still live on.

Melodies produced from great talents reverberates in our minds. Their talents are shown and appreciated. Such tunes last longer and remixed for many times. For example, many music tunes in the music genre, Hip Hop are great tunes of years ago. Although these new cats in the industry will do great finishing touches on it, it still stand tall and moves our body as it were when it was original and great.

Musical Style And Genres.

Most of these recent music can't be purely categorized. They borrowed from styles from several genres and lacks the peculiarities of specific genres. Rather than standing alone or a new genre, recent music lacks standards and styles. For example, which music genres can Africa music being categorized and award for their stars in their international music community. They are grouped as African best or international act because they are really being understood and lacks merits to belong to popular and standard music genres.

In the terms of musicians and their lifestyle which always reflects their kind of music. Take a look at Bob Marley and his reggae brothers. They lives as groups of people and maintains their culture which is highly part of their music. Their fan base and their inspiring new players imitate their lifestyle like growing beards, dreadlocks, smoking etc for the music, they represent. Now, original Christian music lacks the style, standards and culture and easy to saw them, fighting over financial gains which was not their culture at first.

Lyrics And Composition

Personally, recent music have same meaning to me. Sorry to these hardworking and skillful musicians of these days because it takes a lot of efforts and sacrifice to become a star in their choice of profession. But their lyrics revolves around women, money and weed no matter their genre. Although music of years ago have those themes, but there are others with pure messages and words that can actually motivated and inspire one for greatness and spirituality.

Recent music needs better and well thought lyrics and should think outside the box, not repeating what others have said. Although women needed to be praised in songs, but there are still other themes to be taken into consideration. They should borrow a leaf and ideas from music of 90's that are unique and touches social themes like corruption, revolution, suffering etc. Fela, Nigerian musician sang about how good water is. Music can still talk about such important items in existence and how they affect humanity. Not only sex, money and weed.

Finally

Recent Music lacks the originality and uniqueness of their predecessor. But can still improve. Although recent music are more financial rewarding and technically superior than pervious ones, their lyrical composition should be better too. Talents, skills and professionalism should be cherished as well as their culture be maintained and recognized.
