Everyday Keeps Getting Better: How I Spent My Yesterday

For me, some Mondays are busy, while others are quite free. Yesterday was a mixture of both for me. The day kicked off on a rather subtle note. I actually thought I was going to have enough time to rest yesterday, but at about 10 a.m., I got a call from a radio presenter requesting that I write a script for his advert, and he would need it voiced as soon as possible. Of course, I was happy that I was about to close a deal. I had handled similar tasks for him recently, and I guess he wants some more!

After getting a clear brief of what was needed, I wrote the script and sent a voiced demo to him. He was surprised that I could deliver that soon, but I smiled because I knew he was just flattering me. From the recent works I have done for him, he already knows I hate delays. Once the brief is clear, I get to work. He made some adjustments and told me to hold on. Once he makes payment, I’ll enter the studio to finish his work. Although the payment is not that much, I am grateful that it came around.

Hive-wise, one of the interesting things that happened was joining the Hive-Naija WhatsApp group yesterday. I got the link from @jjmusa2004 and also got a warm welcome from @fashtioluwa. As stated at the beginning of this post, I had plans to post on Hive yesterday, amidst other tasks on my list, and I am glad I was able to achieve this. I already have a post that will come up on the Hivenaija platform tonight. I started that post yesterday at midnight, but I am still working on editing and finishing it up.

I had to go pick up some groceries, and a client also asked that I show up for some book editing at their place. I left the house around 1 p.m. and got back around 5 p.m. I immediately got a shower and ate. I didn’t know where the energy came from, but I wasn’t feeling like sleeping, as I often feel after eating in the evening. Instead, I felt energetic and decided to channel my energy toward some work other than writing.

Sometimes I like to get my hands dirty with a little bit of gardening. So, I did some weeding and wetting of flowers yesterday evening. It was so nice to feel like a farmer, or, in professional terms, a horticulturist. I can’t leave my calling for this side attraction, but at least I am glad I am good at it.

I did another funny thing yesterday, and even though I never knew I would come across this prompt, it seemed as if I was busy doing everything to suit its requirements. I did a bit of patching on an affected area. As I was weeding yesterday, I saw a squirrel making its way to a hole, but another thing caught my attention—a broken edge around our gutter.

I don’t know what I was thinking, but all I knew was that I saw myself mixing sand, cement, and water yesterday evening, and before I knew what was happening, I had already blocked the space and the hole. It was after I finished all the work that I faced the inkwell prompt , and I posted my entry by midnight.

Yesterday was one of the funniest days of my life. Even though I achieved a lot, the achievements came in funny succession. I was a writer, voiceover artist, book editor, horticulturist, and bricklayer all in one day! I really covet the kind of energy I got yesterday for not just the rest of the week but for the rest of my life.

I’ll be back at work tomorrow, and I already have plans to share picture stories of my workplace in another post here on Hive. I am confident that the coming days can only keep getting better, as I am fired up to get the best of them!
