THE FEELING CALLED LOVE

Love is a beautiful phenomenon that cannot be comprehended entirely based on one person's description of it. It is an emotion that stems entirely from the heart and no two person can truly understand how it originates, only that they feel attracted to each other. That deep attraction of want, desire, ownership towards the opposite gender can be as a result of a particular trait seen in that person or a particular physique the opposite gender possess. Needless to say, you can find love anywhere and anytime.

When they say love is blind, to a certain extent I feel that statement is true but with a little doubt still attached to it, because I have seen situations where the relationship between two lovers is extremely toxic and demands that they stay apart for their own good but no, they still continue to stick to each other as if their lives will end, and they will cease to exist if they stay apart.
Imagine a relationship where the boyfriend always beat up and molest his girlfriend to the point of inflicting injuries on her body, and when the lady is being advised to leave the guy for the greater good, you will then hear a response like "I can't live without him". Like is that love or foolishness, because I tend to find that hard to process and understand most times.

I had a particular experience while I was in my second year in the university, I don't know if I will call it blind love or what, but I was surprised as to how it ended. The thing was, I had a girlfriend that I was together with back home where I base and we were so in love with each other to the extend that the idea of marrying her crossed my mind, that was how much I wanted to always be with her and also keep her by my side regardless of anything. Little did I know that fate has it's part to play.

One fateful evening, we were seated together outside her house receiving fresh air and discussing with her and one of my friend whom I grew up with and we were attending the same university, when the conversation drifted to her. She said she had applied to come study in the same university as me and she will be coming for screening when the date was set by the university, and that prompted my friend to scream "Ahh, our school, I no trust you this girl". That response from him got me puzzled and before I ask him what he meant by that, he proceeded to say "if you go that school, you go cheat on my guy for sure", and that was when I understood what he meant, but she denied his claim openly there and I felt abit assured.

Fast forward, she got admitted into the university but since we were both staying at different campus because of the course we were studying, I hardly see her everyday, unless on weekends when I go over to her place to visit her. The situation continued like that for some months due to the nature of course I was studying which demanded my time always, because no week will pass without me giving one or two presentations on the design I was working on. Suddenly, I observed that she started giving me attitude whenever I call her, it's either she say she's busy doing something and will call me back later or she doesn't pick up and later tell me that she was charging her phone.

It continued like that for awhile and I discussed it with that friend of mine and he laughed and said "Shey I tell you that time, this babe don get another guy". His words reminded me again and then I decided that I needed to hear it directly from her mouth if she is no longer interested. That same week I decided to visit her without informing her of my coming, and on entering her compound I saw her with another guy standing at the front of her door gisting and laughing, while she wore a cropped up t-shirt and a bump short.

They saw me and the word that came out of the guys mouth was "is he the one". I was surprised that they were discussing about me and I approached him and we spoke for awhile and then he left without telling me his name, which got me suspicious because it was already late by that time and am talking about 9pm late. I entered the room together with her and we spoke for awhile before I asked her directly if she was still interested in the relationship. She responded by saying, "how will you feel if I say I have another guy", I told her "I don't know untill it happens".

She beat around the bush for awhile before admitting to having another guy, but she was hoping we could still be friends, and that one of the reasons for breaking up with me was that I was too simple. Can you imagine that she was saying that to my face at that moment? I stood up and left her house late that night around 11pm, heading to my campus which will take me about 45 minutes to reach. I was very angry and even though it wasn't safe at that time due to insecurity,I still chose to leave instead of staying a night there.

That was how everything ended and we both went out separate ways. So I wondered, does being simple count as a reason for a breakup? Or she just used it as an excuse for the breakup.

So you see, love is beautiful but can be blind also if the wrong person receives it.
