Living a luxury life or an average life is dependent on how much you make or earn that helps facilitate that lifestyle of yours. The choices we make are also dependent on the kind of option given to us to pick from which sometimes feels like we are being compelled to choose regardless and therefore my fellow Hivian, bloggers and you reading this post, what decisions and choices did you make as a result of minimalism?

Let me take you on a journey, when I was in my first year in the university and being the first and only boy in the house, going back to school, I was always loaded with foodstuffs to carry which at times seemed bothersome for me because of the heavy load and charges from the driver because of the nature of my load but I still always end up carrying it and also every month my father do send me a sum of 20,000 as allowance for the whole month which did not seem bad to me at all because I stay alone and always prefer cooking my food than spending money eating outside.

So I always have enough money to buy my reading materials for my courses, do my departmental registration, buy food stuffs to add to my remaining food stock and still have enough money left because then, the Naira had a strong value than it is today making things more simpler. During that period I most times lend money to my friends that a particular guy joking called me microfinance bank because I was always ready to help him whenever he was in financial constraints but everything changed when I was heading to my second year in school because I lost my dad

That immediately prompted me to change and simplify my life more than usual because I knew things will not remain the same again. I stopped lending money anyhow and even though I wasn't living a lavish lifestyle in school, I still decided to cut down on some things that doesn't generate income but rather a steady expenditure. Since that day, even though things were very difficult but I was able to navigate through it with much less funds than I had when my dad was alive and I found tremendous peace and less worries as a result of that.

Till date, I have learnt and adopted the habit of only buying and spending money on things that are very important and emergency cases, than spending money on fancy things that will definitely not bring you passive income .

Thank you for your time

Minimalist living teaches us to live with only what we need. The rest is superfluous.

I stopped lending money anyhow

Ahaa!!! That’s sounds like the old me. I’m glad you started doing better at managing your finances through minimalism. That’s definitely one of the underrated things in minimalism in my opinion.
