Sam’s Hangout #80 -”TRANSGENDER”

”The human body is the best picture of the human soul - Ludwig Wittgenstein”

Hello everyone, my beautiful hive naija people, it's another beautiful weekend and we are so happy to have you here once again. It’s another weekend to buzz the hive blockchain even as we connect with ourselves. It’s just feel good to get everyone together every weekend to talk about random things and just have fun.

OBJECTIVE

As we all know, Sam`s Hangout is focused on promoting the togetherness of the Nigeria brethren through engagement and it's also now concerned of the well being of each and everyone who is part of the engagement. This account was opened to make the engagement more personal and official. You can find the INTRODUCTION POST to read more about the purpose and aim of this account and also do well to follow the account so as to know when a post is made.

The last time, the topic was “FREE DAY"

TRANSGENDER

Now to our discussion for this weekend! We will be discussing “TRANSGENDER”. I’m sure many of us have stories to tell.

"Do you think people choose who they are, or is it something deeper than choice?"

OR

"Do you think people’s sense of identity can change over time, or does it usually stay consistent?"

OR

"Feel free to share your thoughts, but let’s keep the focus on how people can grow and be the best version of themselves.”

As we always say, we are wonderfully and fearfully made.

New Update: Samhangout-badge is out for grabs!

If you know you are interested in getting the badge and you’ve been active with the engagement and the hive naija community, reach out to us via our discord server to apply for it! And for those that haven’t been so active, you can start engaging more and better now and be eligible to apply.

Our hangout is still in mind and plans are still forming to make it a reality. Check out our last post to stay updated. Here’s a link to the post. Thanks to everyone that has contributed and is contributing towards the success of this hangout. Keep supporting the plans as we are making good progress.

Remember, the aim of the hangout is to bring people together, particularly Nigerians. So make sure you have this in mind when responding to the questions. And feel free to add even more to it if you have more.

If you know you have a topic you would want us to discuss about, please feel free to suggest them to us. All you have to do is suggest the topic in the comment and tag @hopestylist to it.

Okay Let's Gist!!!

Be as simple and sincere with the discussion, hehehe.

Transgender; this is actually a deep dive, and i think this is going to be a many way thing, and that’s because a lot of people will be dropping in with different opinions and views on this…

Transgender; when it comes down to this, honestly I don’t think there’s any excuse that could make up for it. How good does it sound to hear that man completely changes himself to a woman. The question is why? What was he thinking when he made that decision…
Honestly, there could be a thousand reasons why such decision was made, it could be societal pressure, family pressure or mostly gender discrimination from early stage. Imagine drilling it into the ears of your young children that a particular gender is better than another, is that not you lighting a spark in their head. Not everyone can take that and sometimes it leaves a scar on the heart, which is why that is always the go to solution to prove yourself worthy, not knowing it’s a big mistake…

At the end of the day, it all boils down to the choice you make. Your choice determines how you are seen. At the end of the day, it’s all about you and what makes you happy, don’t be shy and choose who you are with a sound mind, don’t let the words of any get to you…

Peace out….

@samostically what you got on this?

0

I like that example of the parents saying it openly to the hearing of their children that they prefer a particular gender more than the other. Some children will want to be loved and choose to become the other gender.

While some will want to prove otherwise and be the other gender that is not preferred to prove a point. So many reasons we you’ve said.

Yes, it’s good to do what makes us happy but then, sometimes what makes us happy is bore out of a place of pain or ignorance.

Yes, I agree but at the end of the day, there should always be a figure to clear things up and that will only be better if no pressure is put on these souls...

0
0
0.000
avatar

Yeah. This is why I always blame the parents more because these children should be closer to them than anyone. If they hold on to any believe it is their parents to guide them in making better choices and if they don’t play their roles well, they leave them to struggle to get it right all by themselves and the chances are slim then.

Seeing people change to another gender wouldn't be surprising anymore, if can really see how people especially teenagers and young youth reason nowadays, they can do and undo. They are controlled by crowd ,they don't have mind of their own.

Hopefully it’s gonna be better…

And the it is really quite selfish to just think of ourselves alone not caring what our actions have on others. Those who are transgendered are more concern of what makes them feel good and that can also be due to many reasons which wasn’t properly handled in time.

0

avatar

The first time I heard about this transgender of a thing, I found it icky. But overtime after countless diggings and discussions with a certain friend of mine, my view on it changed.

A lot of factors attributes to that. Just like you said, a child who grew up to hear and see the parents favouring the opposite gender wouldn't think twice before transiting inorder to feel that love, care and attention he only got to be an audience to.

These are actually great points here brotherly
The seed we sow in the minds of the little ones will continue to grow and germinate. It now boils down to who is around to nurture it for them, uprooting the grass off from the real plant.

And before I forget 👀 there's a part missing here; 10 Tags 🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃

Our way of life depends on our choices nothing more deeper than that, it all goes to what we feed our mind and what we let it tell our heart which brings our choice. People choose who they are, I have seen kids brought up from a deep believer home and later turn out to opp of what the parents gave her/him,if not, I would have say maybe it's what parents give out to their kids.

Many children out there suffer from peer pressure mainly because they do not have mind of their own , they get confused easily, they question their choice every now and then ,so there is nothing to be surprised if seeing people wanting to change their gender , believing that a gender has more benefits or has less responsibility. I see it all breaks down to selfishness in their life which is why they think of what could benefit them more or act of not responsible, they don't want to be accountable for anything.
@empressjay @marsdave @afrikens @goldenproject

What do you think guys ?

0

Personally, I always blame the parents for most things that a child turns out to become why? It might just be that one day when you said something so casually or overlooked something because the child is still young he or she won’t possibly take that because they are children and such a parent took it casually until later they realize how much that habit has eaten deep into their child.

Or the part that parents are even ever hardly around to discuss with their children. Or they always appear too righteous before them. All of these and many more can turn a good training void.

But yes, there is a possibility of these children still making wrong choices even after the good training and that is usually due to one factor some parents overlooked or couldn’t afford a better one and that is their environment (friends, teacher, classmates, church members, the games they play, the movies they watch the words they hear and so much).

avatar

Hmmm well you make a point ,I will take my sister has an example, anyone that sees how my sister handles her children now will wonder how come still they turn out bad like that but I as a family ,when I think it deeply , the still comes from her , she didn't introduced this discipline early to them, she thought they were to young to be disciplined ,now that she i now doing so, they are already matured with indiscipline. So, I can say your point are right too

When do you think it’s the right time to correcting our kids?

0

My pastor once said and I hold onto it since then that once a child is no more an infant, infant are (0-1year old) we must start correcting them, we must let them know if their actions are bad.

0
0
0.000
avatar

That’s fair enough but I have a different time to start correcting them. Right from the womb. Have you ever been close to a pregnant woman before me see how the child moves?

Anyways, it’s actually best to start the training right from the time you feel that precious life within you.

0

avatar

As a child grows,a lot of factors affect the kind of person they would eventually turn out to be. It's up to the parents to continue giving them guidance and never stopping. There's a kind a child will receive and they'll just know that a certain lifestyle is not for them.

0
0
0.000
avatar

That’s right. Most parents start teaching their children late. They think taking them to the best schools is what will make them have sense automatically. And some stop guiding them because they assume they should know how to do things. I guess they forget that learning never ends until we die.

0
0
0.000
avatar

The reason why it was hard for me to change my beliefs are bcos my parents teaches us with a lot of strictness and discipline, my parents has different punishment for each actions right from early life and they also lead by example so then we know we can't do against this people we call our parents. Bcos they started training us early and didn't back down at any time, each mistakes comes with punishment, they never let any go without punishing you. That's why today, I think of consequences before I act.

It's true that family upbringing, environment and the like cannot be overlooked but still, one's life is a product of his or her choices. When you're to choose between two things, whichever you go for is nothing but your choice.

And when anyone thinks a certain gender has it all rosey compared to the other, such person is simply dwelling in a lie.

0

Yes ,my dear, it's all on choice the background just have little contributions but whatever you decide is utmost

It all boils down to our thoughts and what we think of ourselves. If someone thinks life will be easier if they just become something out of the original, then it sad. People have to work more of finding who they are than investing the energy trying to be something they're not meant to be.

"Do you think people’s sense of identity can change over time, or does it usually stay consistent?"

For me, I believe anyone whose identity changes over time or lost their self of identity, then I think that person is not fit to be moving freely in the society. It just shows that that person is mentally challenged:

This is something we as a society should not accept. The fact that some people can identify as anything is just so absurd. You can identify as a cat and then you’ll expect the society to accept you are a cat, any society that accept such should know that that society is running mad and will collapse

What are your thoughts @tressuree @soma18 @desire-pen @justola1 @abdul-qudus @neysco @trojan1

0

This was so funny and I know it was funny because I’m not guilty.

Most people that chose to identify as anything needs help not acceptance. They are screaming help me the moment they are confused of what they are and they start seeing the need to be something else that they weren’t initially.

The society accepting just anything is only calling for chaos. The moment some countries accepted it, that was the moment more persons became encouraged to want to be who they are not.

Transgender.
The rate at which the male gender does so many things to turn to females in my country is so alarming.
At the same time, the rate at which a female tends to compete with the male gender over unnecessary things is getting too high

I personally think that identity is a mix of both choice and influence also. Influences like upbringing and life's experience. Everyone has the choice to shape who they want to be over time. But ah, it's becoming too much already. I saw a video on instagram recently, where the girl was like she identifies as a cat so she has her friend taking care of her and treating her like a cat.

This last session in the university, I came across and saw a lot of femboys (boys that identify as girls) more than usual. The rate at which they are becoming more and more is really alarming.

@deraaa come and see. Identify as a cat ke.

I’m curious @kristabel123 what role do you think religion play in all this? Do you think modernization has conquered religion or it has always been like this irrespective of any relational background.

0

@chefqueen true, parents play a role but I don't even think they have that much say again. Social media and what people see outside influences them more than whatever their parents are teaching. Even people from very strict homes are doing these things

0
0
0.000
avatar

@sam.hangout 😂😂😂 exactly, identify as cat ke. For me, I think religion still has a say in all this because if you check, most religions don't support it at all. But modernisation and social media push people to explore things that normally we won't even think of. But I won't say that modernization has totally conquered religion because many people still hold on to their faith strongly. But the truth is, people carry more influence from what they see online than from what they hear in church or mosque sef. That's why all these things are becoming more common. We are just going to far with this identity matter.

0

0.000

You’re right. It is our choices and the influence of things and people on us that shapes us. Most times we think we are in charge of our choices, little do we know that someone or something somewhere is constantly making decisions for us.

“We be anything we want” is a phrase that gives us this liberty to do the unthinkable but it makes us feel good when we say it. We think by doing anything we want, we are in charge but it only means we have lose control of being in charge because we don’t know when and what to listen to anymore.

When it comes to Gender related issue then it's no option or choice. It's deeper than anyone getting to make a choice that this is the gender I want to be as long as you have found yourself to be created as a male or female and when it leads to such situation of choosing then it has turn to a case of sarcastipara la nsinto a.k.a disconjomiror

That’s just it o. Whatever that word means. 😅

It’s just like coming from a family, we don’t choose that and we also don’t choose the gender we come as. That’s all divine and it’s really grave when we think or feel there is a point we can get to and decide to change it.

Well, we are not understanding them because we are not in their shoes but it is obvious that that’s not the right order of things and we should pray and talk to anyone we get the opportunity to know of that things he or she can be anything they want genderly.

Greetings everyone 👋

I will be replying the first prompt question posed.

Naturally, once a child is born, the gender we see is the gender they are and grow up with. Now when a child ( male or female) decides to become something else, I believe it is a matter of choice.

The sad part is that this choice is sick and unhealthy and should be shunned greatly.

Firstly, it breaks the natural order or reproduction as stipulated by God.

Secondly, it exposes a darkness seated deep within the mind that seeks expression.

You can't literally "choose" who you are afterall, we were all born this way but to lose our identity and begin to be something we are not is just so weird.

Transitioning genders is something that our society should shun vehemently.

Be proud of who you are. Love you, believe in you and live for you.

I'm inviting @ozd, @luchyl, @rukkie, @ellizy, @patienceakoan, @faithwellington and @daverick to talk their own.

Yes a lot of people lose or change their identity over time. This is common among people from Africa who finds the opportunity to japa and are able to land themselves an opportunity to stay in their destination country like indefinite leave to remain or green card.

Majority of such people especially when they have no old parents to care for in Africa, they tend to forget their root and take up their new identity

first of all the human mind is the engine room that propels all of our actions and inactions, and we act depending on the content of the mind how do we feed our mind? by what we are expose to: our environment, friends, peer group, society family unit.....

while some society sees trangender as a diabolic thing some others welcome it with open arms all depends on our opinion

why would a person want to transfer from one gender to another?....

I still do not have the ultimate answer to that cause whatever I say do not change anything rather just my opinion...

in conclusion whatever we re depends on our society , peer pressure, friends, surroundings what we are expose to ...

come on

You’re right. There are so many factors that affects our choices as humans and what we expose our minds to is a major factor.

We can only keep sharing our opinions and hope that people see the light in it or they find the right way to go about things.

Yesooo, I like that word fa,

What we are exposed to.
Sometimes ,it starts with little practice of if I dress like this and show mum ,she laughs it off,

Gradually the pig will use back and enter the bush ..😆😆

This is one topic that calls for concern.
Because we keep seeing people doing all sort of things on daily basis.

But personally, I think when it comes to gender, we have no choice to make. What ever happens later in life as a result of transgender is artificial and might likely have a future effect.

So I advise people stick to their initial being. You cannot battle with the lord

That’s a very good advice.
We are playing with what was divinely made and it’s interesting that we think our bodies are our own and we can do whatever we want with it.

This is a topic of great concern...

It's quite appalling to say we can choose who we are. At least, within the circumference of this discourse. We are who we are, and we can't change a thing about it. It's deeper than the superficial outlook given it.

Perhaps, this is just a crisis of identity not a change a person is necessarily drifting towards. This brings me to the consideration if people's sense of identity can change over time or it remains consistent.

Identity crisis again. You can't just wake up and say you feel like you're more of an opposite gender. It's a culture being sold and permeated in the mind. Will we say a person's identity changed when they begin to identity as plants too? Let's not talk animals cos some people are doing that already.

Its a drift from that natural and divine order of things. There might be societal influence and projections, but does it hold weight? It's about a culture being sold. And sadly, it's selling well.

We should do well to love and appreciate ourselves for who we are. We were created and born that way for a purpose. When one decides to go the other way, it's a case of mental instability, I'll say.

Oya, @hopestylist @beckyroyal I don chook mouth finish oo. Let's hear you too @lecia89 @emreal @soma18.

Identity crisis it is indeed. Those who think that they can get tired of being who they are created as and be something else are only lost and needs us to find them. But sadly, the society is rather looking for ways to condole it because they think it is their rights. Forgetting we all have a role to play in each other’s lives because no one knows it all and we are bound to make the wrong choices.

Nice input, Daverick. 👌

That's it. And it's very sad. The society can come in to help address it but it is rather condoning it. The effects are drastic which isn't mentioned or acknowledged from their ends. We really need each other indeed, we don't know it all.

Thank you, Hopestylist. Glad my input makes some sense. 🙂

When it comes to things like this, we forget the power of togetherness. It is only in things that brings money that we clamor for togetherness and all.

The moment a family has failed to instill the right mindset in a child, the next place that child can get help is from his or her social environment and if that environment is not after their own good, they end up making more wrong choices.

(Edited)

So true. It's sad, we need to do better.

That's it. The family is meant to be the principal place where a child gets their values and perceptions of life. If that's ignored then he or she will certainly learn it from the society or environment because a child will always learn.

The worrisome part is that the social environment is a funny and depraved one today. With all that's presented it will be hard for the child to tilt towards the right things. And before you know it, these narratives build.

Hmmm...

The sad truth and reality.
Hopefully parents can put in more effort to guiding their children, hopefully.
