Hello everyone, how are you all? Hope you all are doing well and i am too. I am feeling sad that i am not posting regularly and i am coming twice week. I will try my best to do everyday. Today we are going to see how lipoma looks on FNAC.
First of all what is FNAC?
Its Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology where we can use syringe with needle or only needle and we are going to aspirate it. So now the question is what we have to aspirate. Its all from swellings you can take examples like Thyroid swelling, lump in the breast, swelling or small in the forearms arms back of neck and body and in the cervical region the lymph nodes swelling etc.... so many we can aspirate. So here as we are going to see how lipoma looks like lets see how it will present.
These are swelling or lumps seen over the nape of neck or forearms they can be single or multiple. We will call Lipoma if it is single and Lipomatosis if they are multiple.

Case

A 43 year old man came to the hospital with swelling over the nape of neck of size 5×5 cm and on examination it is painless, slip sign is positive, no local rise of temperature, soft to firm in consistency, not fixed and movable.

Fine needle aspiration was done and smears were made and after that staining was done.

Microscopic findings

On FNAC, we will get fragments and we will fibrofatty fragments comprising of mature adipocytes with peripherally placed nucleus. Because lipoblasts has center nucleus with indentations and we have to mention no atypical cells or malignant cells in the bottom before giving report to make sure clinician and patient that they doesn't have any cancer its just a benign.
