Histology of Epididymis

Hello everyone, how are you all? I hope you all are good and i too. Today i want to continue with the histology part and now we are going to see normal histology of epididymis. In my last post the seminiferous tubules we have seen and gow the sperms are formed and we have seen what are leydig cells. Maturation and storage happens in epididymis this is the main function of epididymis.

In the above image, you can see histology of epididymis. The epididymis is lined by pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium. The lumen contains spermatozoa in which spermatids are there which are getting matured to sperms and they are stored in epididymis. Surrounding the epididymis there is smooth muscle fibres surrounding it.

The seminiferous tubules also looks similar tubular structure but difference is cilia is present in epididymis but not in seminiferous tubules. The lining epithelium is totally different in both. The type of cells are different. Leydig cells is a great clue for identification of seminiferous tubules bcz they are present in between seminiferous tubules.
