Success is a byproduct of how you choose to use your time

If you are a lady, a grown woman, I can bet you've heard people tell you, your time is running fast, and you need to get married soon to beat the motherhood clock. This post isn't about women or marriage or starting a family. However, you could choose to see it from that angle.

When I flipped my new book, The Diary of a CEO, I did not know what to expect. My eyes landed on a chapter urging me to turn the pages and see what the author had to say.

Steven Bartlett will allow you to be yourself while making sure your ego is bruised a little bit. This is no way to undermine your ability as an individual but to wake you up and put your life into good use

I learned a lot from that chapter alone. I have less time than I think I do. The average life expectancy of an individual is 77 years, and if you are somewhat around the age of 30; you have spent 10,950 days and you are left with 17,228 days.

If you haven't been using your life well up to that point, then, you know you have a lot to cover. The moment you realize you have less time on earth, you should retrace your steps and make them count.

You can't spend the little time you have unwisely. Steven Bartlett made me understand the key way of looking at this is to see myself as a gambler. I am standing over a roulette table and the number of hours left for me is the total number of chips that I have in my hand.

The rule of the game is to place one chip per hour, knowing that I can't get it back. In the end, the wheel will keep spinning and the way I place my bet will determine the rewards I will get out of time.

You reap what you sow.

I can place those chips on whatever I like. I like Netflix and sleeping. I could place one chip in an hour and see a movie. I could place two to three chips for three hours of sleep. What I do with the rest of the chips will determine the outcome of my life.

I get to understand that whatever it is I do with my chips is up to me. But if I realize that I have less of them, I will adjust my expectations and set them on things that bring meaningful changes to my life.

How I allocate my time will influence everything going forward. Even though I may try to avoid it, the game of life ends when I run out of chips. As scary as that might sound, it's our reality as humans.

None of us know how many chips we have left. We can only depend on what science says is the average life expectancy. But we don't know tomorrow, so we have no idea if we will drop dead tomorrow or not.

However, if I knew I had less time left, what should I be doing with my time? Knowing what I value the most in my life, is financial freedom, I would allocate a large portion of my chips to things that will bring me knowledge and understanding on how to create passive income.

Passive income when put in place will leave me enough time to use my chips to start a family, train my children, spend time with my loved ones, travel the world, or just make friends with people all over the world thanks to social media.

If I don't make these conscious efforts to make this work, I will struggle with the usage of my chips. Anxiety and depression might sneak in because I am not able to do the things I'd love to do because I am more worried about money than anything else in the world

Now, is the right time for me to make sure I don't grow into a weary, annoying, suicidal woman. I have so many chips left now and every hour counts. I should be able to start putting them to good use.

Since my chips are plenty, I won't have to run twice as much in the direction I should have gone in the past when I realized it too late. I have enough chips to spend hours reading that financial book, watching those investment videos, connecting with like-minded individuals, building my network, and fostering good relationships. All in a bit to make old age bearable.

I shouldn't be caught wasting time on things that do not add to my growth process. This doesn't mean I won't allow chips to play and have fun once in a while, I definitely will. Adding fun to the mix is meant to create a balance. A balance we humans require to make life worthwhile.

Do your well you put your chips to better use starting today
