Last Minute Trip
I stood by the window side and stared blankly outside. I took a sip of my coffee and sighed heavily.

I kind of miss my old life. My old life that was filled with kids and nature. I thought of how beautiful flowers would look outside the window. I could already smell the beautiful fragrance from its petals filling my nostrils.
“Do you like that coffee that much?” I had no idea Martins had walked in.
Living together for more than three weeks now, I guess he was starting to catch up on a few things that I love.
“It has become my favourite thing to drink now.”
“It tastes like chitterlings soaked in bad water.”
“Martins! It doesn’t taste that bad.”
“Don’t be biased, it does!”
“To each his own tastebud!” I concluded, shrugging my shoulders and turning back to stare outside the window.
I could hear his footsteps close up on me but I didn't turn back around to face him.
He was dressed in a suit as though he had a meeting to attend. He had his hands buried in his side pockets, looking all strong and mighty. It kind of reminds me of our last time on the elevator, the time he placed my first kiss on my lips. Oh, that sweet day!
“What’s so interesting out there?”
“The greens. The grass is just so beautiful. The way the dew had settled on it, drizzling down the leaves on the branches. The sky above and the trees. Oh, the birds. They all just look so perfect!”
Without turning to the side to face him, I could feel his eyes boring holes deep into my skin.
“What?” I asked with a creased brow without turning to face him.
“You’re weird. It's boring.”
I have no idea if that was a compliment but I guess I would take it.
“Thanks,” I replied with a feigned smile and he nodded, looking away from me.
“I have a business meeting with the board. I might not be back until nightfall. Don’t stay up waiting for me like you always do,” he said and turned to leave without waiting for my response.
Listening to him feed me information that could soothe my mind about his movement made me feel some type of joy within me. He has been doing this since we got married which has only been three weeks and I hope it continues that way.
“Martins,” I called and he turned around with a straight face.
“Call me when you get to work.”
He tilted his head slightly to the side as if trying to understand why I had just said that before straightening his head and nodding.
I watched his retreating back leave the room before letting out a deep breath. I walked to the bedside and dropped the cup of coffee on the drawer before settling on the bed.
I stretched my hand out to feel and imagine his body lying next to me with my eyes shut and a replay of that night played in my head.
The night he sought my comfort. The night we lay naked next to each other. The thoughts and feelings of my yearning for him replay as well. I stretched my hands further on the bed, inhaling his scent in his space when the door flung open.
I immediately flickered my eyes open.
“Ma’am!” My driver called as he walked in and I got up from the bed hurriedly, clearing my throat.
“Huhm…what do you want?” I furrowed my eyebrow as this was the first time he walked into our room.
“Boss said to get you ready for the trip,” he said and I shrugged my shoulders.
“What trip? He just left now and he mentioned no trip to me,” I commented but the driver said no words. I then looked around for my phone and dialled him which he picked up on the second ring.
“You didn't mention we were going on a trip, babe.”
“It's last minute. I just think since we didn't get the chance to travel for our honeymoon, this might be the best time we’ve got.”
“How about your board meeting?”
“That can hold. I want to be with you. I want to spend more time with you, Marie.”
His voice sounded like a plea and I could not hold back but accept this last-minute trip.
“Then, let's do this!” I said with a broad smile as I hurried up and packed my things.
One thing Martins didn't tell me about this trip was that it wasn't just alone time with me but with his step-brother, Christian.
I walked into the room in their private cabin in LA and I just loved the creaking sound of the wooden board under my feet.
Martin had excused himself to pick up a business call and I’m slowly wondering if the main purpose of this trip had been met.
I was unpacking when I heard a knock on the door and my brow creased at the sight of Christian.
He walked deeper into the room, closing the door behind him with a mischievous smile on his face as he took a slow stride of steps.
“Hey, Christian. Do you need me to assist you with anything?” I asked with a furrowed eyebrow as I stood up from the bed.
“Oh, I thought my brother could but I guess it’s just the two of us in here,” that statement made me shiver a bit as I became uncomfortable.
“Oh, good. If that’s the case, I’d just excuse myself from the room,” I said politely as I ventured to walk out of the room but he crossed me.
“Not so fast, dear Marie,” I could sense the mockery in his tone and a mocking smile at the corner of his lips.
“What do you want?” I asked.
“I want you to know that I know what you and my brother are up to. I just can’t point it out yet or oh, wait…maybe I can point it out but I have no evidence.”
“Good, Christian. I hope it all works out well for you,” I said as I darted to the side but he stopped me again.
“Or, we could go the easier way. No one has to know,” he stuck his tongue to the roof of his mouth, eyeing me in the most annoying way.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“You and me, together without making any noise.”
He took a daring step forward and I competed by taking one backwards.
“Stay away from me!” I said sternly as I shoved him aside and walked outside the room.
“Let’s see how long that lasts!” he said behind me as I shut the door.
