Harnessing Hive for Global Missions: A Comprehensive Blueprint for Real-Time Impact and Empowerment
This is a Master Plan for Missions, which is a requirement in the Missional Strategies course in the Ph. D. ICS program.
I intend to expand this plan once I create a community on Hive with missions in mind. These are just my initial thoughts and so many ideas here are still tentative. Nevertheless, I outline in this article a strategic plan for integrating Hive into mission work to address global needs. I am not sure if this will materialize in the future. For now, I am focusing on using Hive's diverse and international network to conduct real-time missions, starting with the Bania community in India, which is heavily represented on the platform. The plan includes researching community needs, creating local partnerships, and implementing pilot initiatives. Moreover, I also propose using a community on Hive as a hub for faith-based activities, developing content to inspire spiritual growth, and utilizing micro-strategies like content creation, staking, and yield farming to support mission projects. The strategy I have in mind emphasizes transparent reporting, education, and a structured exit plan to ensure sustainable impact.
Here is the detailed content of the Master Plan:
Overview
Among the key features of the fourth Industrial Revolution, I want to employ blockchain technology as my missional platform. The particular blockchain I have in mind is Hive.
Hive has 1.2 M users worldwide. The professions of the people who comprise this network are diverse. There are content creators, developers, blockchain enthusiasts, investors and traders, community managers, educators and consultants, marketers and advertisers, social activists, and mission workers.
Countries represented on Hive are also diverse. There are users from Europe such as Ukraine, Russia, Romania, and Germany. Other countries include the United States, India, Brazil, Japan, Canada, South Korea, Nigeria, Venezuela, and the Philippines. Being a member of the network for more than three years now, I observe that a significant number of Hivians are coming from India, Venezuela, and Nigeria. I suspect that this is the case for they find in Hive a way to address the unique economic and financial problems in their countries such as currency devaluation, corruption, and high unemployment rates.
Studying Missional Strategies and reflecting on my ministry experience and personal situation, I now decided to do missions and ministry using cyberspace. At the outset, three things come to mind to realize this dream: a real-time mission, an online community, and a technology where users can own and manage their data transparently. And I think that’s where Hive comes into the picture.
Entry Strategies
Among the three countries identified above with a huge number of userbases on Hive, I decided to pick India as my target for real-time missions. Since India is so huge and now considered “the world’s most populous country, with a rich tapestry of ethnic, linguistic, and cultural diversity,” to narrow down my target, I have to choose one among the many unreached people groups (UPGs). According to the Joshua Project, among 2,329 people groups in India, 2,161 of them are classified as UPGs. That’s 93% of total number of people groups. This makes India the home of the biggest number of UPGs in the world.
Searching for examples of UPGs in India, I find the Bania community very interesting. They are known for their skills in business and commerce and are considered to play an important role in the nation’s economy. Realizing their influence on the nation’s economy, I came up. with a tentative entry strategy that I find most appropriate. The priority is to focus on understanding the community’s specific needs and establishing relationships and trust.
Investigate
Research the needs, culture, and socioeconomic background of the Bania community. Field surveys, community leader interviews, and a review of previously published papers or research may all be part of this.
Create Local Links
Determine who the local Bania community's leaders, influencers, and organizations are and make connections with them. Their assistance might make admission and acceptance go more smoothly.
The mission can arrange a kickoff meeting or workshop to outline its plans for community benefit. Make sure the meeting is conducted with consideration for cultural differences.
Pilot Initiatives
Create projects and programs that specifically address the problems the Bania community has identified. For instance, design specialized company development courses or financial literacy initiatives if economic empowerment is the objective. To gauge the project's effectiveness, start small. Get opinions and information. Evaluate how the mission affects the socioeconomic circumstances of the community and make the required changes to improve efficacy.
Ministry Strategies
Establish a Hive Community Hub
This will serve as the central platform for communication and mission activities such as online Bible studies, prayer groups, and faith-based discussions.
Content Creation Strategy
Regularly produce content that aligns with mission objectives such as weekly devotionals, mission updates, and other educational content. The goal is to inspire and encourage spiritual growth.
Utilize Hive's reward system to monetize content. Earn HIVE and HBD through content creation and community engagement and discuss how a certain percentage of this reward can be used to fund mission projects, support missionaries, or provide resources to underserved communities.
Micro-Finance Strategies
- Micro-earning via content creation and curation
- Micro-saving – HBD has 15% APR
- Micro-staking. Stake HIVE to gain voting power. Use this power to curate content within the mission community.
- Micro-trading using Hive Engine and Decentralized Apps (dApps)
- Micro-Yield Farming. Provide liquidity to liquidity pools.
Community Engagement and Growth
Send out invitations to churches, groups, and like-minded people to join the Hive mission community.
Work together with other Hive communities that share the same ideals as our mission. Take part in collaborative projects, campaigns, or gatherings.
Use the Hive platform to host online Bible studies, theological lectures, prayer gatherings, and mission briefings.
Conduct campaigns or challenges with a clear objective (such as a "Faith Challenge" in which participants submit daily reflections and receive rewards).
To expand visibility and reach, encourage community members to interact with the material by upvoting, commenting, and sharing.
To reach a larger audience interested in faith-based and mission-related content, use hashtags and community tags.
Education and Empowerment
- Theological Education
Develop a series of theological courses, webinars, or workshops that can be accessed through the Hive network.
Issue digital certificates for course completion, verified on the blockchain for authenticity.
- Financial Literacy Programs
Offer financial education sessions that teach community members how to use blockchain, staking, and yield farming to achieve financial freedom while contributing to mission work.
Create content around ethical investing, sustainable giving, and decentralized finance (DeFi) opportunities.
Transparent Reporting
Publish Progress Reports of mission activities (e.g., number of new community members, funds raised, projects completed, content engagement).
Share regular updates on Hive, including financial reports, impact stories, and testimonies. This transparency will build trust within your community and attract more supporters.
Exit Strategies
Evaluate whether the mission’s goals have been met and assess overall success.
Conduct a thorough review of mission objectives and compare them with achieved outcomes.
Gather feedback both from the members of the Bania community and the members of the mission community on Hive
Identify any remaining tasks or issues that need to be addressed before exiting.
Ensure that the leadership of the UPG is equipped to take over mission activities.
Transfer any remaining resources, including financial assets, materials, and technology.
Develop a leadership transition plan, identifying key individuals or groups who will take over responsibilities.
Support local leadership with ongoing mentorship and guidance as needed.
Encourage the community to take ownership of the mission’s outcomes and initiatives.
Promote the involvement of community members in decision-making and management.
Establish community-led committees or groups to oversee the continued implementation of programs.
Provide clear and transparent communication about the exit strategy and what it means for the community.
Use Hive’s platform to share updates and reports with the community and broader network.
Capture lessons learned and success stories for future reference.
Compile a final report detailing the mission’s achievements, challenges, and impact.
Share success stories and case studies on Hive and other relevant platforms to highlight outcomes and provide inspiration for future initiatives.
Offer continued support to ensure the smooth continuation of mission activities.
