The Concert || Finish The Tale #24

He’d been saving all year for the summer concert—only to lose the tickets an hour before the gates opened.

"Darlene, is that you?", Jason asked, calling the attention of someone he thinks looks familiar.

The lady removed her headphones, turned around and almost let out a shriek.

"Oh My God! Jason! What are you doing here?", she asked.

"I could ask the same of you. Don't tell me you are also a fan of "The Dukes"

“Of course I am. I'm surprised you didn't know that”. She said, giving him a warm smile.

Jason let out a little laugh. "It's been a while since we last saw each other, so....."

"Oh so you're saying you forgot all about me? I'm hurt" Darlene said, feigning a pained expression while holding a hand to her chest.

"No-No, I didn't say that. What I meant was that…”

"I'm just messing with you ", Darlene said, cutting him off.

He seemed to still have trouble controlling himself around her. She still looks so beautiful and he has been crushing on her for a long time.

The day he finally summoned the courage to ask her out, she almost laughed in his face while telling him "I'm sorry Jason, but I don't think of you in that way". Those words hurted him but he found a way to move on or so he thought.

"Well how will I get a ticket now with this large crowd? I doubt if there's any ticket left to be sold for tonight's concert", Darlene said, letting out a frustrated sigh.

"That's why I got mine before now. I saved almost all year to get it but it's worth it. It saved me the trouble of finding a ticket at the last minute", Jason said showing Darlene his ticket for the concert.

They were standing at the gate where the concert was to take place in about an hour. The whole place is filled with lots of people, most of which are fans from all over who had come to see their favorite boy's band play.

"The Dukes" , as they were called, consists of four excellent and talented singers. Their dancing skills are top-notch. Their songs have won them the love and attention of both the young and old which was why everyone and anyone would be at the concert.

Darlene knew there was no way she could get a last minute ticket at an affordable price because people were paying double or triple the price to get their hands on anyone willing to sell them a ticket.

She thought of how to get one when an idea suddenly formed in her head and she gave Jason a sly look.

"Why don't I hold on to your ticket while you find a way to help me get one", she told him, twirling her hair with one hand and slowly rubbing a finger down his arms.

"But I-I- d-don't think I can get one now", he stammered a bit as the trail of her finger on his arms started messing with his senses.

"Just try ok? Pleeeeeaaasssee. I will owe you one if you do this for me", she said, holding his hands.

"Okay, I'll try but why do I have to give you my ticket?" He asked.

"So you won't leave me all alone when the gates finally open", she declared, stretching her hands for the tickets.

He chuckled but decided to give her the tickets while he quickly went to look for a way to get another.

He asked around for a while but couldn't get anyone to sell him any.

He finally gave up and decided to go back to Darlene when he heard a loud noise as people rushed towards the gate which is now open and people with tickets are being allowed to go in.

He got to where Darlene was standing initially and couldn't find her. He called and shouted her name but no response. Then he watched her from afar as she handed over his ticket to one of the security men guarding the gate and disappeared into the venue.

To say he was shocked would be an understatement. He couldn't believe how foolish he was handing over his tickets to a girl he hadn't seen for a long time.

He felt so stupid and used. He stood there watching other people getting into the concert and it dawned on him that she knew that he never got over his crush on her and used that to her advantage.

He lost his tickets to a girl he thought he knew but sadly she still knew how to get to him after all these years.

If he had just left her in the past where she clearly belonged, maybe he wouldn't have lost what it took him almost all year to save in order to get her to consider him.

He was very foolish and very foolish indeed.
