The Big Decision : Stay Or Fly?
You have been given a huge sum of money with two options: stay in your country or relocate permanently to a different country.
I have always pondered on a question like this. I always wondered what I’d do if I had a huge amount of money; Stay or Leave.
Some years back I would have said I would remain in my country no matter what. “I wouldn't leave my home to live as a stranger in someone else's land”. Now, I laughed at myself for thinking that way.
As humans, we all want good things for ourselves and one of the reasons why I would want to leave my country for another in the first place is to get a better place where I can get a good paying job which I wouldn't be able to get in my country unless I have enough money and good connections to “buy” the job.
Now that I already have that huge sum of money, the next thing on my mind is security or rather wanting to live and raise my family in a sane environment.
In my country, the rule of law doesn't always apply to the rich but to the poor. A rich person, especially those with power and connections can “show” just how far they are willing to go to prove a point to a poor person and who would defend that poor person? No one.
A shop owner can immediately evict his/her tenant who pays yearly on shop rent without giving them enough notice. Even when it's clearly stated in the tenancy laws that they should be given 3-6 month notice to quit.
I have seen the case of a young lady who barely a week to her shop rent being due was told by the landlord that she shouldn't bother renewing and was served a quit notice to vacate the shop premises immediately her rent expires, when she hasn't broken any tenancy laws.
Where does she start from? She had the rent with her but to get a new shop in about 5 days time is near impossible especially when she doesn't have the money to pay for other charges, that is, “the agency and agreement fee” that would be required to get a new shop.
It is injustice but where would the tenant even get the money to fight the case against the landlord? Even if she does, I am yet to see where a poor person wins a case against a rich and powerful person.
I want myself and family in a place where the rule of law isn't just stated but implemented. If there is a country out there where the law applies to everyone, where rich people don't just buy and bribe their way out of crimes, where everyone is made to face the music, then I would gladly move permanently to that country.
“But you would be rich too, shouldn't you do the same and abuse power?”
No. I wouldn't. In order to stop something then actions must be taken. If not for myself but for my children, or else the same circle continues. Rinse and repeat. My children will grow up thinking it's a normal thing for the rich to go scot-free while a poor person should rot in jail if they commit the same crime, amongst many other things.
“Is there any country out there where everyone is treated equally and fairly?”
If there is. I am leaving immediately to that country but if not, I would stay put because then there's no point in moving to another place where I would face the same thing all over again.
Japa things on my mind....this is nice.
Who wants to stay in a country where there is oppression back to back. If you find out that country where rule of law is upheld, please let me know too.
I will sell my fatherland and use to relocate ASAP.
Abeg stay make you help your fatherland.
I no dey help any father lamd
I get your point, well said, the rule of law should be given and made sure it's implemented but then i also this biases...
If we all japa.to where good , who'll fix the problem of our origin,i deeply feel rather than running we should solve the problem...
The peopl.in the part of the world we're in are fixed on making money and getting rich rather than trying to make life better....we go to school to become rich, basically everything we do is to the end that we're rich...
But take a closer look, for as many persons that have solved problems, they are not just rich, the world knows them ,at the initials the intention wasn't riches but because you aided humanity, nature will surely give you what's yours without much struggle...
So let's redefine the narratives and seek to be a problem solvers
You did well with your post, welldone
I do get your point as well but a lot needs to be done to bring about the change you speak of.
Look at those who had propagated this "change" for as long as I can remember. Where are most of them today? Many fled for the lives.
It's even better if it's only the people in power we had to demand these changes from but we citizens as well. Bigotry, tribal wars has been the order of the day.
Our leaders has bring about that discord amongst us that everything is now associated with tribes. You can't even want to rent a house without some landlords giving the conditions of "No Yorubas allowed, No Igbos allowed, No Hausas allowed and so on.
Corruption and greed is deeply rooted that it will take God's intervention for us to start getting our lives back.
Na person wey get power to fight make he fight. Let me first stay alive.
If it's the same all over the world, let me kuku stay and choose the battle I can manage but if there's a place out there that is safe and secured for me and my family. I will move there without a second thought.
That's true 😊
I won't even think twice, the only thing I will wait to check is my destination country immigration law.
😀😀😀😀 why all of una wan run from our fatherland na. Abeg make some people volunteer to stay.
Father land no help us, make we go mother land abeg
Well said, we hope for a better tomorrow in this country
I do hope and pray it gets better.
This is very touching. And to start by the landlord, he/she has done nothing good, by asking the person that occupied the shop to pack just immediately after the rent expire.
It is good to live in a place where the rule of law is just, and not always making the poor to look as the bad person, but when we all leave, what about our land, shouldn’t they be another way?, at least to stop the corrupt practices if any?
I know nobody wants trouble, we all want peace, but there is no peace when we are in another country, and hear that our uncle or aunt was dealt with in a situation that wasn’t their fault.
Going little again into the person who was given a quick noticed without not in line with the tenancy law.
She should have seek authority, it does helped sometimes. And by so, the landlord will recall that, he/she was wrong, and then, will not do the same thing to another person.
Well said. Most people want to stay and fight and that is so commendable. No one wants to leave a home that protects.
But what happens when a person is mentally drained of the constant oppression. When people who are meant to be our protectors are the ones being the thorn in our flesh.
When some people who doesn't expect to be given the world, just quietly doing their jobs, putting food on their table and their whole world is being turned upside down because someone wants to prove they can.
Maybe when I start seeing where people with no money nor connections can take up a case with rich people abs and wins it. Then, maybe I would at least have some hope.
You got some point, and I understand with you, it will be very hard to stay when a person is mentally drain, he/she has to save itself.
Your points are correct. In my country the poor suffers while the rich and influential get away with everything they do even when is not right.
If I have the opportunity to leave this country to a country that is better, I will not waste time in doing that.
No o. No do like that abeg. Make some of una stay so we fit comot.
Na beg I dey beg you.
I can see shey na only you like better thing. No wahala
😂😂😂
Wealth indeed has overshadowed a lot of things here...no justice, no fairness.. nothing.
I very well respect your opinion.

Thank you for reading.
Much welcome.
There is barely a country where there is total equity. There may be promises of equity but there would always be citizens who go against this.
If you eventually find a country like that, please don't hesitate to share with us.
Chaiii. Na to go start our country be that at this point.

To travel is on my mind ooo, who wants to stay back and be suffering.thanks for sharing.
