Her People, Her Home || Finish The Tale #11

Sitting at the dinner table, I suddenly understood what home really meant.

Maggie hasn't visited her parents for a long time. When she was still in school, her parents always tried their best to contact her, to check on her well-being but she never really appreciated all they did for her.

Maggie has two siblings,ao her family barely got by. Her mum is a petty trader and her dad worked multiple jobs to be able to cater for them all. She blamed her parents for not giving her enough, she envied other girls in her class for not having to worry about money as most of their parents were loaded.

Her friend, Lexi, invited her to her parent's house during a festive period. Maggie looked forward to going as she has always wondered how Lexi's house looks from all their conversations. When she got there, her mouth opened wide at the gigantic building.

Lexi gave her a tour of the house and Maggie couldn't help but admire the house even more. She was given a guest room to stay for the duration of her stay before they went back to school. "I'd never had a room to myself before", she wondered as she looked around the big room.

When it was time for dinner, she was called and she went into the dinning room. She couldn't help but notice that only three people sat at the dining table, Lexi, her elder brother(who barely said two words to her) and her. When she asked Lexi about her parents, she shrugged and told her they both travelled.

They ate their dinner in silence, well, except for the sound of the Tv. Maggie suddenly realized that Lexi's family may have all the riches in the world but their parents don't have time for their children. As she sat at their dining table, watching everyone doing their own thing, not minding the presence of one another, she suddenly remembers her own family.

Her parents, no matter how stressful their job was or the bad day they must have had, always ensured the whole family had dinner together, right there and then nothing else matters. After dinner, they would each talk about how their day went and they had never ever missed having dinner together especially during festive periods when families are supposed to be together.

Maggie, realises that she missed her parents, she misses her family. Sitting at Lexi's dinner table made her realize what home truly meant. It's not about the size of the sitting room nor the kind of furniture it has, It's about the people there, her people, her family, her home.

Immediately she got back to her room, she called her parents and thanked them for always being there for her even when they had so little. Maggie also spoke to her siblings and they were all overjoyed to hear from her, what they didn't know was that she was planning to surprise them by visiting home after a long time.

Thank you all for reading.

That's why it is not wise to envy people because you don't know what's up with them behind their flashy appearance and behind closed doors.

It's good that Maggie reflected well on herself.

We don't cherished what we have at times, not until we loose it, that is when we will realize how important it was.
