When I saw this week's prompt, I instantly knew the sitcom to review. It is my all time favorite.

Fresh Off The Boat is an American Family Sitcom. It was inspired by chef and food personality “Eddie Huang”. It's a six season series which comprised of 116 episodes.

PLOT

The sitcom follows the story of the Huang family. The parents are Louis and Jessica, Their children were Eddie, Emery and Evan.

Louis’s mother Jenny also joined them in migrating from Chinatown of Washington, D.C to Orlando Florida to open a steakhouse business which they named “Cattleman's Ranch.

The series shows how they tried adapting with their new life in a new country and how they navigated through managing a business and also connecting with people around them.

My Thoughts

I love everything about this sitcom. From the very first season and episode, I was instantly captivated. The comedy, the humor and many more.

I love how each of their children were unique in their own way and both parents complimented each other. Jessica's toughness to Louis's laid back attitude. Everything just blended together.

I also loved how it explores cultural identity and generational differences without losing its comedic and humorous side.

The character I loved most in this Sitcom was Jessica's. If you think you’ve seen the craziest of all mothers, then you need to watch out for Jessica Huang because that woman is more than what you bargained for.

I love the way she would literally do anything for her family even though she goes overboard sometimes. Who am I kidding? She goes overboard most of the time.

When it comes to winning, she is there, as she is very competitive. She always wants to be the best and pushes her family to be the best in everything they do. She is used to getting what she wants and doesn't always like taking “No” for an answer.

One thing I loved about her was that despite her strictness in pushing her children for success, she recognizes her children's strengths and weaknesses and helps them achieve what they want.

Her first son Eddie is very rebellious despite his mother's nature and her youngest is very inquisitive. I believe he is going to be more like his mom.

One of my favorite scenes was when Jessica went to Evan’s school to have a “debate” with his teacher. The teacher didn't allow her Evan to join the debate team because he is young and the debate team is for 5th graders, according to the school rules.

Jessica challenged the teacher and used her debating skills to win. Actually it was a win-win situation as the teacher used her tactics to teach the class.

I love the fact that Jessica doesn't try so hard to belong. She loves taking charge and always says her mind. She sets her own rules and doesn't allow people to push her over.

Jessica's friendship with Honey Ellis was great. She and her husband Marvin Ellis were the Huang’s next door neighbor.

Even though other women in the community dissuade Jessica from making friends with Honey in the first place(due to the fact that they disliked Honey for being a husband snatcher). It was good she followed her instincts and became best friends with Honey.

Do you know she is also a minimalist? Ha! You cannot cheat that woman in any way. Anything that would help save money, she takes it. Don't parade anything for free before her because she is ready to take them all.
