Sweet Reward for a Productive Sunday: Enjoyed Sinukmani with Coco Jam and White Kalamay with Roasted Coconut Flakes with the Fam

We can only find different kinds of kakanin in one place during Tiangge-an day here in Poblacion, so every Sunday, whenever we go visit the market, I can see those kakanin, and every time we pass by their corner in the covered court, I am always tempted to buy some. But, those Kakanin are really bad for me because I always have stomach pain after consuming some Kakanin. By the way, kakanin are sweet, glutinous rice based snacks here in the Philippines. There are a lot of kinds of them in here, and they are all delicious, but yeah, they're bad for my stomach, so I avoid them now. Or even if I eat some, I always make sure to chew it well, especially those made with glutinous (⁠〃゚⁠3゚⁠〃⁠)

Anyways, today's really productive for me. I did my laundry early in the morning. I also did another batch yesterday, but even after doing that I still have more in my laundry bag, haha. And right after feeding our cat and cleaning everything from their mess and their cages, that's when I went to the market with Mama. It's Tiangge-an day today because it's Sunday. The truth is, last Sunday, I made a promise that I will buy this kakanin that I've been eyeing. I even asked Mama to remind me of it, which she happily did. Haha. And so, yeah, aside from today's lunch ingredients, I'll be buying some Kakanin too, specifically that with coco jam on top. Am I excited? Heck yeah! └|∵|┐♪

But before going to the market, I harvested some Malunggay in the yard which we'll use later into the dish we're going to prepare which is just Ginataang Suso. Yeah, AGAIN! Haha. The oldies won't ever get tired to it, that's according to them. Lol. And yep, I asked Mama to help me with it. Because the Malunggay is already too tall, I asked her to cut it using her big itak. After this task we then go to the market, we bought what needed there and went back home after. Of course I didn't forgot about the Kakanin. \⁠(⁠^⁠o⁠^⁠)⁠/

So the first one is "maja blanca" according to the seller. But when I check, it is far from maja blanca because it is made with glutinous and as to what I remember, this is called "Kalamay Dampa." But this version is color white and not brown which is the original color of it. And as you can see, it is wrapped in banana leaves and it has roasted coconut flake which we will top on the Kalamay later.

Just like this! The Kalamay is not that sweet but the roasted coconut flakes is sweet so they goes well really perfectly. The Kalamay is too chewy and soft and I had to chew it more because it is too sticky ad well. But it taste really good for me. The oldies enjoy it too ♪⁠ ⁠\⁠(⁠^⁠ω⁠^⁠\⁠ ⁠).

One of this cost 15 pesos only, it's small and kinda thin, but they used real glutinous here so I think the price is just right. And I didn't buy a lot of it because the oldies can't a lot of them, especially Mommy D. So I only bought one of this, just to try it and also to satiate the cravings.

So next kakanin is Biko or Sinukmani. The original of this has a Latik on it or the coconut curds. I like it with Latik this because this version is just too sweet for me. The sticky rice cake is not that sweet but the jam, it is just toooooo sweet. But Mommy D enjoy it more, she also like the coco jam on top. This one cost 25 pesos. It's not that big but for us, it is already enough. As you see it is cut in four no? I was able to eat just one because my throat is nagging at me, hahaha. It say's "no more pwease." Lol

But on serious note, it taste really good, the sticky rice was cooked just right, not too soft, just perfect. Same on the coco jam on top, it's not that too watery, the only problem is it is too sweet for me. Still, I enjoy every inch of it. Maybe if they the coco jam is not that too sweet, I can eat more of it. This is also why I prefer the one with with Latik. But still, I enjoy it, the oldies enjoyed it. Mama loves it too but she bought Maja this, it is a maja made in corn and not maja blanca. This version is really good too. Too bad I don't have a photo of it.

Overall, this day is really a nice day for us. It's productive and we get to eat the foods we like as well. It's a happy Sunday! (⁠^⁠.⁠_⁠.⁠^⁠)⁠ノ

Oh, I almost forgot, here's the Ginataang Suso. And this time, it only has Malunggay in it, as in a lot of Malunggay (⁠ノ゚⁠0゚⁠)⁠ノ⁠→

And another thing, I also bought a cooked Chopsuey in a restaurant and it looks really really good. What caught my attention was the quail eggs so I want it. Then when I check it at home it also has chicken meat and shrimp (⁠^⁠∇⁠^⁠)⁠ノ⁠♪. And that's the reason why it cost more. It's pesos and not surenif it's half or one serving but I think half only. But there's still a lot. And seeing the quality ingredients, I say it's F worth it! \⁠(⁠◎⁠o⁠◎⁠)⁠/

I enjoyed reading about your trip going to market and the delicious kankanin you bought. Sometimes, even it hurts your stomach, you still eat ad enjoy the sweet especially the biko and kalamay. That's what I'm craving now, best for coffee.
