Healthy and Tasty Soup Recipe for the Cold and Sad Weather: Tofu Egg Drop Soup for My Achy Achy Throat

Cold Thursday everyone, yep ⊙﹏⊙, I know what today is because Mama asked me while we're on our way to the market. You see, we don't look at the date or what day today is anymore. Even with the huge date and time in my phone screen, I can't really see it much because my hand often tap fast with the app to open it and so those huge time and date will be set aside and often ignored, lolol. Mama's the same actually (≧▽≦)

Anyways, I have sore throat today, it started last January 19, yep during Fiesta. I know what's the reason, I drank a Soda during lunch because I thought there's a special occassion so a soda is really good that day. Usually, I will let it cool down first before drinking any cold drink but that particular day, I was so mayabang, I drank it right after getting it to the fridge ʘ‿ʘ. Then later that night, I started to feel an itch in my throat, I even told mama "ah, I feel like i'll have a sore throat." Then the next day, boogsh, baam, awoooo -my throat is so achy achy

And it's still sore today, i didn't take any meds, but I had ginger tea using fresh ginger. Then today I decided to make my own version of Tofu Egg Drop Soup. I actually search on google about a food that is really good for sore throat and Egg Drop Soup appeared. I tried to search more about this particular recipe and I learned that we can add tofu or ginger in it, we can also sautee ginger and onions and then add turmeric to give it a yellowish color. And so I decided to make this.

Here's the Ingredients:

  • 3 Large Eggs
  • 2 Small Blocks of Tofu
  • Ginger
  • Small Onion
  • 3 Cloves of Garlic
  • Chicken Broth Cube
  • Cooking Oil
  • Water
  • Salt and Pepper

We'll start by cutting our onion, garlic and ginger then minced it. Next it cutting the Tofu into a small cube size. For the egg, I just added pepper and salt in it to give it a lil taste. And the I just cut the chicken cube into half, we'll add more if its needed.

I really think sauteeing the garlic, onion and ginger will make a big difference in this recipe. To the first recipe I saw, they really didn't sautee it. So I asked google if its okay to sautee these when making egg drop soup and it says its okay, lol. I mean, just making it sure you know, lol.

When it started to smell, I added a lot of water in it, coz I mean, its soup you know -followed by half cup of chicken cube, salt and ground pepper. I made sure to stir it will for the salt to melt faster.

After 5 minutes I added and drop the tofu in the mixture and let it boil for 5 minutes. The tofu's already floating at that time

Then slowly, I drop the egg while also stirring it, continuously! I also tried to taste it to see if I need to add more salt. I added just a pinch.

Then I remember Mommy D has Turmeric, she got it from her sister. its actually Turmeric Tea Powder, but I thought that's also okay so I added a teaspoon. This will give a lil color to this recipe.

And it's DONE! I immediately prepared our lunch because this is good to eat while its still hot!.

Nyom ෆ╹ .̮ ╹ෆ. We have leftover fried chicken from yesterday so I paired the Tofu Egg Drop Soup with Rice and Fried Chicken. And it is just the best combo. And this recipe really is so warm and flavorful so it is really perfect for today's gloomy weather. It's so cold here even though Mr. Sunny showed up from time to time. Seriously, the weather's really crazy. One moments its hot, the next thing you knew, it is already raining. People will really get sick with this kind of weather.

Anyhow, I also received a compliment by the oldies. This is the first time we had this actually and the first time I tried making it. So for that, I think I did a good job making it. And its easy to make anyway. I'm sure anyone can easily make it but i'm still proud trying a new recipe for a change (^._.^)ノ

When I was a child, I remember I didn't like soup at all! It was a never-ending battle between my parents and me regarding how much soup I should eat... 😂 I didn't want any, but was forced so many times to eat at least a few spoons...
Today, I can't imagine lunch without the soup! When we moved to Spain, people were looking at us strangely because of eating soup BEFORE (almost) every meal! Truth to be told, is there anything better for a sore throat except tea and a warm soup? Case closed!

Thanks for sharing the recipe! The soup looks fantastic!

Looks yum and perfect for this kind of weather! It's actually pretty cold these days. Whenever I have sore throat, or I feel like I'm getting sick, my parents usually prepare a warm ginger+lemon+honey tea. it's my favorite! hope you feel better soon! rest helps too :D
