Music Box is the third studio album by American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey, released on August 31, 1993 by Columbia Records. The album was produced by Mariah Carey, Dave Hall, Walter Afanasieff, David Cole, Robert Clivilles, Babyface and Daryl Simmons. During the album's development, Mariah Carey wanted to broaden her audience by opting for a more pop/R&B-oriented sound. Additionally, The album comprises of ballads written by Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff and a few urban dance tracks.

"Dreamlover", "Hero" and "Without You" from the album became the singles that topped the charts around the world. Additionally, "Without You" became the highest-charting international single of Mariah Carey's career. "Without You" became Mariah Carey's first number-one single in most European markets and reached the top three in the United States. Additionally, Carey embarked on the short but successful Music Box Tour in North America to promote Music Box. Mariah Carey was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 1994 Grammy Awards for "Dreamlover" and received the same nomination for "Hero" at the 1995 Grammy Awards.

Music Box received mixed reviews from music critics upon release. Overall, the album Music Box faced criticism regarding Mariah Carey's more mellow and laid-back tone in comparison to her previous work. The album was a huge commercial success, reaching number one in 15 countries including Australia, Germany, France, the United Kingdom and the United States. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified it Diamond for shipments of ten million copies in the United States. Music Box has sold over 28 million copies worldwide, becoming Mariah Carey's best-selling album and also one of the best-selling albums of all time. There are great songs such as "Dreamlover" and "Hero" in the Music Box album. Frankly, I enjoy listening to both of them, but I can say that my favorite song in this album is "Without You". I have memories of this song, but I won't talk about it in this post. I will talk about it in a future post.
Mariah Carey - Without You

Mariah Carey has a really strong voice, her vocal power is truly impressive. Mariah Carey reveals this very powerfully in the song "Without You". Actually, this song is a wonderfully desperate Music Box ballad. But Mariah Carey's performance in this song is truly amazing. I especially love the part where it turns into a wail as she cries out “I can’t live if living is without you!”.
