Born in the U.S.A. is the seventh studio album by American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen, released on June 4, 1984 by Columbia Records. The album was produced by Jon Landau, Chuck Plotkin, Bruce Springsteen, Steven Van Zandt. The album Born in the U.S.A. is composed of twelve tracks, seven of which were recorded at Power Station studios from April 26 to May 14, 1982. "Born in the U.S.A." was the first compact disc manufactured in the United States for commercial release, and was manufactured in September 1984 by CBS and Sony at Terre Haute, Indiana.

The critically acclaimed album has frequently been cited as one of the best albums of all time and was nominated for a Grammy Award and produced seven top ten singles in the U.S. The album features tighter songs with a brighter, more pop-influenced sound and prominent synthesizer than Bruce Springsteen's previous albums, and the album features tighter songs, while its lyrics explore themes of working class struggles, patriotism, disillusionment and personal relationships. The album cover features a rear photo of Bruce Springsteen taken by Annie Leibovitz, which has since become one of Springsteen's most iconic images.

Additionally, the album was a major commercial success, being certified 17x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales of over 17 million copies in the United States, and has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. The album topped the charts in many countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, and became Bruce Springsteen's most commercially successful album and one of the best-selling albums of all time.

The album debuted at number nine on the Billboard 200 and reached the top of the chart two weeks later, on July 7, remaining at number one for seven weeks. It also remained on the list for 143 weeks. In the United Kingdom, the album debuted at number two on 16 June and reached number one thirty-four weeks later on 16 February 1985, remaining at the top of the chart for five consecutive weeks. It was certified three platinum by the BPI on 25 July 1985, denoting shipments of 900,000 units in the United Kingdom. The album has sold more than 30 million copies and is currently the 22nd best-selling album.

There are some really great songs on the album. Downbound Train is my favorite song on the Born in the U.S.A. album. It's such an incredibly good, albeit sad, song.

In "Downbound Train" a man who has lost everything pours his story, while behind him, long, sorry notes on a synthesizer sound just like heartache. “I had a job, I had a girl,” he begins and explains how everything changed: Lines like "I work down at the carwash where all it ever does is rain," certainly provide excellent emotional resonance, and the track's mournful synth lines complement these bleak images.

Also, I think "I'm Goin Down" is the saddest love song ever. This song is definitely the best on the album. It's been almost 40 years since the album was released and I still listen to these songs, truly great works never get old.
