Hey Grok, What Are The Three Best Drum And Bass Songs - Three Tune Tuesday

I've been seeing a lot of post about how the new Grok update on X is really good. So, I've been testing it out a bit and I wondered what it's response would be if I asked it to shill me the three best drum and bass songs. Here is what it said and those three songs.

I laughed when I read the "absolute bangers" line. Pretty good, pretty good.

As for the songs, ya, those were pretty damn big tunes when they came out and definitely staked their claim for the sub-genres, but I disagree about them being the best, or even the best of their sub-genres. So, this post I am going to follow Grok's recommendations and next week I will substitute my best three. With that said, let's get into the tunes.

First up, Origin Unknown - Valley Of The Shadows

Valley of The Shadows first came out in 1993. At that time I was a raver and had just started DJing, but honestly I don't remember the song. It wouldn't be until the late 90's that I had heard it, but by then drum and bass was changing rapidly and sounded very different.

Next up, Roni Size/Reprazent - Brown Paper Bag

This tune was huge and did propel drum and bass into legitimacy. I would say Roni & Reprazent were the transition group for drum and bass into it's harder, darker intense bass line driven sound.

Lastly DJ Marky & XRS featuring Stamina MC - LK

Before I get into the tune, this was the first time I had seen the video. So I was shocked that the first half was filmed in Tokyo! My friends are all over the video and I was trying to see if I was in it too!

Ok, so the tune. Marky & XRS were DJ/Producers from Brazil and when this tune hit it made them superstars in the drum and bass world. It was part of a new sub genre we called Liquid Funk and it was definitely an important tune in those days, but there were others....

Now for a Wild Card.

While preparing for this post I was listening to Roni Size & Represent's "In The Mode Album" and got flashbacks. The early 2000's saw drum and bass explode with producers and different sub genres. I was DJing, doing my own club events and I remember this tune made the dance floor go absolutely nuts. There are only a few tunes I can say this about and this was one of them. The build up was smart and the drop into the bass line was incredible.

Roni Size & Represent - Out Of The Game

That's it for now. Grok's suggestions were pretty good, but I'll see if I can come up with some better one's next week.

Thanks for listening!

Thanks to @boxcarblue for introducing me to #TTT and @ablaze for dreaming it up.
