Dinner Above Kobe At Rokko San Silence Resort Grill
last weekend I was down in Kobe for our annual gem and mineral show and wanted to take my wife to a nice dinner. So we decided to get out of the city for a change and head up to the mountains that border downtown Kobe. At the top of the mountains there are several hotels, resorts and cafe's that over look the city and Osaka bay. We decided on one of the few that was open late just incase our drive down from Tokyo took longer than we expected. The restaurant we chose was named Rokko San Silence Resort Grill.
We planned on arriving before sunset so we could get both a daytime view and night time.
The restaurant offers indoor & outdoor dinning with the choice of a course menu, teppan yaki or yaki niku(bbq). We decided to sit indoors because of the wind and the yaki niku plan.
Because we had arrived early the restaurant is empty. It made us feel special as we had the whole place to ourselves for about an hour.
While waiting for our food we took in the views of Osaka bay below us. This is Kobe port and part of Kobe with downtown being out of view to the right.
This is a view of Osaka port with the Osaka Expo being directly in the center, on the island in front of the tall building.
Side note, I'm heading down to Osaka for another gem and mineral show next weekend and hope to make it over to the Expo.
Dinner began arriving very quickly since we were the only customers. A kale based salad with thousand island dressing, just a normal salad.
Then came the garlic bread and main course.
The meats consisted of local steak, pork, chicken and a sausage made of both the beef and pork. The vegetables were corn, eggplant, squash, renkon(lotus root) shitake musroom and shishito pepper. All completed with a beef tallow cube to grease the grill with.
With food on the grill the sun began to set.
While the views were nice, the food was better. The steak was very flavorful with just enough chewiness you could enjoy it before the flavor drained. The pork typical, while the chicken was seasoned with unknown spices and yuzu which really gave it a wonderful flavor. Everything paired with the variety of vegetables made it a great dinner.
Then came desert.
I had a simple sherbet with with an orange sauce and cookie. The wife had the full spectrum of desserts.
Her's included a peeled grape pudding, chessnut mousse cake and sherbet.
As dessert was being served our waiter started showing us all the landmarks out in the bay. When we finished he took us downstairs and out on to the outdoor dinning area to take additional pictures.
It was a great night of views, food and memories. If you are ever in Kobe I'd recommend this restaurant, but you have to have a car to get to it. You can find more information abut Rokku San Silence Resort Grill on their website here:

Now. I am hungry! But no chance of getting good Japanese food at the moment.
Ah, but it's very simple bbq. Surely you can get some there!
What an amazing place. A scenic spot where it seems like you could spend some quality time together. I've been to a similar place in Italy when I visited the Veronese hills.
Thanks. Italy, Greece, you Mediterranean guys have some incredible views with ancient buildings!
That's really stunning views! Were there any other customers in the end or did you manage to have the whole place to yourselves the entire evening?
We had the whole dinning room, but there is teppan yaki room too. A couple were in there having a good time.
Such a perfect evening! Amazing views, great food and that peaceful feeling of having the place to yourselves, it must have felt so special.🤗
