Rings in the air

A young man chats with the bartender,
telling stories of his transformation
as if it were a trophy;
he exhales cigarette smoke
without making rings in the air,
but raises his voice
so we all know
what he calls himself when he drinks.
I'm at a table far away,
trying to read or write,
I don't know which.

What she calls herself when she drinks
isn't important.
I tell them the story
so as not to talk about the rain
which isn't important either because it isn't raining...
Then I talk about rings in the air,
but I should write about what I didn't want to:

and the memory of honey on your breasts.

Anillos en el aire

Un joven dialoga con el barman,
cuenta historias de su transformación
como si fuera un trofeo;
expulsa el humo del cigarro
sin hacer anillos en el aire,
pero levanta la voz
para que todos sepamos
cómo se nombra cuando bebe.
Estoy en una mesa bien lejos,
tratando de leer o escribir,
no sé en qué orden.
Cómo se llama ella cuando bebe
no es importante.
Les hago el cuento
por no hablar de la lluvia
que tampoco es importante porque no llueve...
Entonces hablo sobre anillos en el aire,
pero tendría que escribir sobre lo que no quise:

y el recuerdo de la miel sobre tus senos.
