Cenzontles in the nest | Show Me A Photo Contest Round 234 [EN/ES]

Hello bird lovers!

Today I bring you a wonderful sight that we rarely get the chance to enjoy!

Just days old, this pair of Cenzontles, one of the most unique birds that cover rural and urban areas of Cuba, reveal themselves to us in all their splendor with their curious gazes.

Known in my country as Sinsontes (Few people here know that its name, Cenzontle, comes from the Nahuatl word Centzuntl. They are also called Ruiseñores in Puerto Rico, although the Ruiseñor is actually a different bird, much smaller and more colorful.), they stand out for their ability to simulate different melodies and songs of other birds, to the point that it's difficult to distinguish which one is their specific distinctive song. In fact, I understand that they can't produce the song of the Tomeguines alone, perhaps because it's too high-pitched and they choke, according to what some farmers have told me.

It's common to find someone who teaches them to sing the notes of even the national anthem and even the occasional guaracha, adding musicality to the environment in conjunction with its majesty in the image they project as adults.

¡Hola amantes de las aves!

¡Les traigo hoy una vista maravillosa que pocas veces tenemos la oportunidad de disfrutar!

Con apenas días de nacidas, esta pareja de Cenzontles, una de las aves más singulares que cubren los parajes rurales y urbanos de Cuba, se nos muestran en todo su esplendor con sus curiosas miradas.

Conocidas en mi país como Sinsontes (pocos acá saben que su nombre Cenzontle proviene del náhuatl Centzuntl. También son nombrados Ruiseñores en Puerto Rico, aunque realmente el Ruiseñor es un ave diferente, mucho más pequeño y colorido), destacan por la capacidad de simular disímiles melodías y cantos de otras aves, al punto de resultar complejo distinguir cuál es en específico su canto peculiar. De hecho, tengo entendido que solo no pueden emitir el canto de los Tomeguines, quizá porque es demasiado agudo y se ahogan, según algún campesino me ha referido.

Es común encontrar a alguien que les enseña a cantar las notas incluso del himno nacional y hasta alguna que otra guaracha, dotando de musicalidad al entorno en conjunción con su majestuosidad en la imagen que proyectan ya de adultos.
