Hameed Pata Mee Goreng Sotong (Cuttlefish Fried Noodle)

Penang is known as one of the food paradise in Malaysia. One of the must-try dishes when you visit Penang is the famous Mee Goreng Sotong which translates as Cuttlefish Fried Mee. As the name suggests the dish is made with yellow noodles, homemade special sauce, and rehydrated dried cuttlefish

During my company kick-off trip last month, I had the chance to visit the famous Hameed Pata Mee Goreng Sotong food stall which is located inside the food court in Penang Esplanade.

I was there from Thursday until Sunday, and on Saturday I and a few of my colleagues went there for lunch. The journey from the hotel to Penang Esplanade took us 30 minutes of driving time. Luckily, the traffic was not as bad as the usual traffic in Penang.

When we arrived at the food court, the queue was tolerable. Even so, I queued for nearly 15 minutes before receiving my order. However, the queue started to build up fast after we had received our order of fried noodles.

The price of the squid fried noodles was MYR 8, which is considered cheap compared to the Kuala Lumpur standard. I ordered for my fried noodles to be made less spicy, hence the color was not as red as the typical squid fried noodle. The typical fried noodle from Hameed Pata's is incredibly red, hot, and spicy.

Even though the color was different, the taste was still amazing. I can only describe the experience as love at the first bite. I will make sure that I come back again to this stall when I visit Penang in the future.
