Zamek w Malborku – perła średniowiecznej architektury/ Malbork Castle – a pearl of medieval architecture [PL/ENG]

Malbork leży nad brzegiem rzeki Nogat. To tutaj znajduje się jeden z najbardziej imponujących średniowiecznych zamków na świecie. Był świadkiem wielu wydarzeń i wciąż emanuje potęgą swojej historii, przyciągając turystów z całego globu. Przez lata pełnił różnorodne funkcje i przechodził przemiany. Był dewastowany i odbudowywany. Zmieniał właścicieli i stanowił rezydencję polskich królów.

Malbork is located on the banks of the Nogat River. It is here that one of the most impressive medieval castles in the world is located. It has witnessed many events and still exudes the power of its history, attracting tourists from all over the globe. Over the years it has served a variety of functions and undergone transformations. It was devastated and rebuilt. It changed owners and was the residence of Polish kings.

Budowa zamku rozpoczęła się w 1280 rok z inicjatywy Zakonu Krzyżackiego. Pełnił on rolę głównej siedziby mistrzów zakonu, a jednocześnie był centrum politycznym i administracyjnym Państwa Krzyżackiego. Budowa zamku trwała dziesięciolecia i była dziełem wielu osób.

Construction of the castle began in 1280 on the initiative of the Teutonic Order. It served as the headquarters of the masters of the order, and at the same time was the political and administrative center of the Teutonic State. The construction of the castle took decades and was the work of many people.

Zamek jest przykładem gotyckiej architektury w pełnej krasie. Potężne mury, wieże i majestatyczne dziedzińce nadal mnie zachwyciły, choć była to już kolejna wizyta. Budowla posiada trzy odrębne części: Wysoki Zamek, Średni Zamek i Niski Zamek. Każda z tych części miała swoje unikalne funkcje, od mieszkalnych po obronne. Do potężnych zniszczeń doszło zimą 1945 roku, kiedy zamek stanowił punkt oporu w czasie walk z Armią Czerwoną. Na szczęście dziś możemy cieszyć się odbudowaną wersją.

The castle is an example of Gothic architecture in its full glory. The mighty walls, towers and majestic courtyards continued to amaze me, even though it was another visit. The building has three distinct parts: High Castle, Middle Castle and Low Castle. Each of these parts had its own unique functions, ranging from residential to defensive. Massive damage occurred in the winter of 1945, when the castle was a resistance point during the fighting with the Red Army. Fortunately, today we can enjoy a rebuilt version.

Historia zamku w Malborku jest związana z bitwą pod Grunwaldem. Odegrał on kluczową rolę jako twierdza zakonna i strategiczne miejsce w trakcie konfliktu pomiędzy Zakonem Krzyżackim a Królestwem Polskim. Mimo że bitwa zakończyła się zwycięstwem polsko-litewskim, Malbork nadal pozostał miejscem historii.

The history of Malbork Castle is linked to the Battle of Grunwald. It played a key role as a monastic fortress and strategic location during the conflict between the Teutonic Order and the Kingdom of Poland. Although the battle ended in a Polish-Lithuanian victory, Malbork still remained a site of history.

Dziś w zamku znajduje się muzeum, lecz fotki pstrykałem o 5 rano, po drodze nad Bałtyk. Zatem mogłem obserwować mury z zewnątrz. Co ciekawe obiektyw nie objął całej budowli.

Today there is a museum in the castle, but I snapped photos at 5 am, on my way to the Baltic Sea. Thus, I was able to observe the walls from the outside. Interestingly, the lens did not cover the entire building.
