Comedy Helps Society Make It Through The Day
I would like to start off by saying that I have been meaning to get a post into this community for the last week or so now but have had a lot going on with work and family life. All is good, I just wasn't able to get around to beginning to build this community.
I have always found comedy to be a positive influence on society. It has always been very important in my eyes because with so much negativity all around us, there needs to be a way to think about something else and to look at things in a different light.
I believe that comedians are true artists because they have the ability to find the humorous side of any situation. A joke can stem from absolutely anything; no matter how negative or macabre an event may be there is always a way to view things in a more positive or comedic light.
A comedian is like a magician as well in a way because of their ability to take what is in plain sight for all to see and make it into something totally unexpected. The best comedians that I have ever watched simply took events from their lives that could be deemed ordinary and made them into spectacular and well-established jokes.
I've been working on some comedy material on my own to try to do at an open-mic night and this is a place that I would love to share it as I finalize exactly what my jokes/stories will be. For now, I would like to share a few of my favorite comedians and see what you think!
Dave Chapelle

Source
Dave is probably one of the best comedians ever. He is unapologetic and says whatever he wants to when he is up on that stage. I have always admired the range that he brings to the table by being able to go from sketch comedy on the Chapelle show to standup that hits all of the most controversial issues in society.
Kevin Hart

Kevin Hart finds a way to use his voice to craft great impression comedy. He tells a lot of jokes about his family and gets listeners very involved in the stories; in fact, his latest Netflix special had visitors in his own home as the audience and he even ended the show by giving out pizza (something you'll have to watch the special to understand).
John Mulaney

I really like the jokes that Mulaney has come up with as he is able to play on the fact that he comes from a rich white family. His jokes are very self-depreciating, but he finds such creative ways to do it that you are actually laughing with him rather than at him. He went to my university and actually has made some good jokes about it as well citing how much he disliked his experience. I recommend checking his Netflix specials out, they are great.
Let me know in the comments who some of your favorite comedians are or if you have been to any shows lately. I will be going to the Hasan Minhaj show in Philly in just about a month! I plan on sharing some of what my experience is from that despite the fact I can't record anything due to a no phones policy.

The past few years, one of my favorite comedians is Jim Jefferies. I saw some of his shows on TV many years ago, way before he had his own TV show on Comedy Central, and I liked his style right away. I guess it helps that I have similar views on many topics. We saw him live in Detroit a couple years ago, that was a great show. He's coming back later in the year, but even after adding a second performance, it seems tickets are hard to find.
I think I have seen him on Comedy Central a few times. It's always easier to get to a show before they really blow up! That's awesome though, I hope you are able to find some tix
