Not Quite Dead: My Dad And His News Papers
My dad has always been a lover of newspapers. Every morning, you would find one folded neatly by his chair in the living room. In his office, another copy sat on his desk, half-read, waiting for his free moment. Even when he went out for an occasion, he somehow found a way to pick up the day’s paper. It was almost like an extension of him.
So when my elder brother surprised him with a brand-new smartphone, we all thought it was the end of those stacks of papers. “Now you can get news instantly,” my brother said proudly. Dad smiled, accepted the gift, and even tried scrolling through the headlines.
But the next morning, I still found him with a fresh newspaper in hand. I couldn’t hide my surprise. “Dad, why?” I asked. “The phone gives you all the news, faster, cleaner. Printed newspapers are outdated.”
He looked at me calmly, his glasses low on his nose, and said, “They may be old-fashioned, but printed newspapers are not quite dead. Many people still prefer reading them, just like me. The world may be changing, but some habits stay alive longer than you think.”
