Ladies of hive community. Contest #252. Turning Challenges into Business Opportunities.
Immediately I saw this prompt, the thought of a business idea that has been recurring in my mind each time I visit my hometown came alive again. My hometown, a quiet interior village in Akwa Ibom State, is a place where electricity is more of a myth than a reality. People constantly struggle with basic things like charging their phones, powering rechargeable lamps, preserving food, or even enjoying cold water and drinks. Living without electricity makes daily life far more difficult than it should be.
Each time I visit, I keep asking myself: how do people store their food without a fridge? How do they keep their rechargeable lamps and phones powered? Wouldn’t they gladly patronize someone who provides such services?
That is why, if given a chance, I would love to establish a business that combines rechargeable gadgets charging services, ice block production, and eventually the building of a cold storage room for traders.
Here’s how I plan to start: with sufficient capital, I would purchase a large generator and an ice block-making machine. I would set up a space with a large extension board where people can pay a small fee to charge their phones, lamps, and other gadgets. At the same time, while the generator is running, I would use it to power the ice block machine. This way, I can produce ice blocks for people who want to make their sachet water, soft drinks, or palm wine cold without needing a personal fridge.
I believe this business would thrive because it meets real needs that people face daily. With consistency and God’s help, it would grow. Over time, I would expand into building a cold storage room where traders can pay a fee to store perishable goods such as meat, fish, vegetables, or fruits. This would not only reduce food waste but also boost business opportunities for local traders.
Beyond the profit, this venture would also create employment. Since I cannot manage everything at once, I would employ trustworthy people to oversee the charging center, the ice block production, and later, the cold room operations. By doing so, I would provide jobs for others while still growing the business.
For me, this is more than just a business idea, it is a way to improve the quality of life in my hometown.

That's an incredible business idea, Rita. Knowing what the consumer needs is one of the vital values of a business person.
I do hope you get the finances needed to start this. I wish you luck.
I hope so dear.
Thank you very much ❣️
I love the fact that your idea of setting up this business came as a result of your concern for your hometown. That's admirable.
The electricity issue is indeed something that needs to be attended to. Absence of it causes people to end up reheating their meals repeatedly after preparation leading to lose of nutrients.
I hope you get the resources to start because this will be a profitable business and will be very much appreciated by your people.
Certainly, it will be appreciated.
I hope so dear.
Thank you ❣️
You're welcome 🤗

The first step in creating a business, recognize a market NEED!
I do have a Solar powered emergency Generator that can put out 1.2 kws power in an emergency. Enough power to run my clothes washer and a few appliances, more than enough power to charge a few devices too.
A great ideal @ritaetim
