Lack sensitivity: How insensitivity held her back
I had a friend who lacked decency, not just in character, but in her words and even physical appearance. Till today, I still wonder how I ever got close to her. She was my exact opposite in every sense. I tried, on several occasions, to help her become better, to influence her positively, but all my efforts were in vain. Eventually, I chose to distance myself and let her be.
One day, something happened in school that required her urgent attention. It was regarding registration for our final year exams. A lecturer needed her details to complete a verification process, but she was absent. Recognizing the importance of the matter, I reluctantly gave her contact to the lecturer so he could reach out to her directly.
When he called, she ignored the first attempt. On the second call, she picked up and shockingly barked, “Who’s this idiot disturbing my life? You’re very stupid! Get your silly butt off my phone!” The surprised lecturer tried to explain who he was, but she wasn’t willing to listen. “Lecturer my foot,” she retorted and gave a long irritating sigh before ending the call.
Needless to say, the lecturer dropped her case. That single moment of insensitivity cost her the course. She failed it and had to return the following year to clear it while the rest of us had graduated and moved on.
It was a painful lesson, one that could have been avoided with just a little self-awareness and respect. Sensitivity isn’t just about being kind, it’s about recognizing the weight of your words and actions. Sadly, not everyone learns this in time.
