UNAUTHENTIC HEALTH ADVICE
In this recent time of technological advancement, information is spread easily as a result of the many social media platforms, this results to having everyone claiming to be a specialist, one way or another, giving advice on every discipline online, an individual for instance who maybe a 100-level medical student or a nursing/community health student, will decide to be an online health consultant, even when he/she is yet to be qualified.
Before I dive forward with the above, I would like to talk about some funny health advice I have heard while growing up, which is my main topic of discussion.

Among the many includes as follows;
if you drop a tooth you will have to hide it from the agama lizard by burring it or throwing it away on a high roof, if you don’t do that, your tooth will never grow back up.
To treat pink eye which is normally referred to as Apolo where I grew up, it is advised to use your first urine in the morning to wash your face as a medication for the ailment.
During the period of Ebola, to stay safe during that period, one should bathe with salt water and also drink salt water to prevent oneself from being infected, this resulted in the death of many who were hypertensive.
Taking Erujeje (a local alcoholic drink) for the treatment of toilet infection.
Eating late at night causes pot belly.
Taking sugar cane as a remedy for urinating blood.
It is funny how it is advised to have regular sex (twice weekly) to reduce the risk of prostate cancer or suckle the female breast to help her reduce the or have a low risk of breast cancer.
All these seem to me as just excuses to pass on superstition, terrible advice or means to get people to engage in questionable activities. I hold on to the idea that eating late can cause a protruding stomach or certain health challenges, I do not eat beans at night no matter how delicious it seems. This is based on my experience and not any reliable health source.
So maybe we all have some droplets of superstition sprinkled over our thoughts about healthy living.

So the tooth advice wasn’t just around where I grew up. I always had to make sure to throw my tooth on the roof of our house even though I was very tiny.😅
What a time it was to be alive!
Lol.. yeah children were yelled at or mocked by other kids, especially when the front tooth drops off, so they tend to take the advice very seriously.
thank you for reading my post.
