The saying every disappointment is a blessing is sometimes true, this is because some disappointments are blessings in disguise. Let’s start by first understanding the terms disappointment and a blessing in disguise. A disappointment according to the American Dictionary: “Disappointment is the unhappiness or discouragement that results when hopes or expectations have not been satisfied or someone or something that is not as good as you had hoped or expected”.
While a blessing in disguise “is something that seems bad or unlucky at first but turns out to be something good in the end”
I have heard a lot of stories from people about how this has been true to them through the years, to the extent of not being worried about facing disappointments at any time because they believe it always comes back as a blessing.

A little girl was telling me earlier how her mother refused her to go to a party with her other siblings, at first, she felt so disappointed since she had plans to attend this party and was looking forward to it. This, in the end, became a blessing because she still remembers that day as one of the best days, she has had in her life time, she had showers of gift that day, and since she was the only one left at home with her mum, it was more of a party with her mum, she ate whatever she wanted to eat on that day and had the best time ever with her mum.
I have had a lot of experiences myself regarding the topic of disappointments, although most didn’t turn out to be a blessing, I have few cases where what I thought to be a disappointment was a blessing in disguise, I am happy to use this medium to narrate that experience which has stood out among them all.

Once a time in my life, after my secondary school education, came the time for me to decide on a higher institution to which I would love to continue my education, the only school I had in mind then and always spoke about was the institution I loved the most then. I have had about the city of Jos so much that I fell in love with the city, how cold the weather was, how sweat the nightlife was in the city, how things were cheap, everything about the city was exciting to me. That was when I decided to apply to the University of Jos. Unfortunately for me, the year I finished school and was to apply for my choice of higher institution, the university was not receiving new intake for the next session and I couldn’t apply for my longing choice of school. I felt so much disappointed that it made me so sad for a while and my dad was a bit relieved because he never wanted that school for me. I had no choice but to go for his choice of school which was the University of Abuja. I applied for the school and I was fortunate to be accepted for the next session.

My disappointment increased further when I resumed the session, the school (the Mini campus which was where my faculty was situated) looked so old, and the structure was not how I imagined a higher institution should look like, I have imagined new buildings with modern infrastructures and learning facilities, but what I was seeing was far from my expectations.
My perception began to change when I started meeting new friends, the likes of Jamaine, the likes of Meta, the likes of Mr. Eazy, the likes of Chill, the likes of now director Dutch and a lot more. These individuals made me understand how better to enjoy my situation, we had all sorts of experiences together, we did new things together, tested the depth of the waters, and explored the city of Gwagwalada socially and otherwise, I learned how to be independent with these set of dudes, learned how to care for others and what it felt to be cared for by people who are not family. We would go to class together to even study and prepare for exams together, my time with this set of individuals made me understand life and they gave me the best memories of my life. This made in understand that it wasn’t really about where but about the souls you connect with in your life’s journey.
I am still glad to my soul that I decided to study at the University of Abuja which brought me more joy than I anticipated from the beginning of my Journey. My life at Gwags was more than I had imagined with the city of Jos.
