TECHNOLOGY THE KEY TO GREAT RELATIONSHIP

Hi, my name is @rishagamo, this is my first publication to the @hivenaija community, I hope you enjoy my entry to the weekly prompt edition 86.

Technology have made every aspect of life very easy and beautiful, back in those days, people write letters to send information or check on their love ones who distance have separated them from. Before you talk to a love one, you will have to travel far or wait for days to get back replies or their letters.

Fortunately for me, I grew up in the era of the GSM. While I was a junior in secondary school, the senior students usually sneak in mobile phones to school since it was a contra band item in order to connect with parents and love ones at home, while the school was in session. I can remember how I would use Senior Abdulmalik's phone, who always let me borrow his phone to communicate with my parents and siblings. I will call my father especially anytime I miss home or I was in need of money or basic provisional items.
Apart from using Snr. Abdulmalik’s phone, I also use my Guardian's mobile Phone to call my parent, this was not illegal and I didn’t have to hide in order to communicate with my parent.

The development of social media like Facebook, made it easier to make new friends, far and near and also to keep in touch with loved ones whenever we were away from each other, leaving secondary school, I lost connection with all my friends and class mates but with the help of Facebook, I was able to get in touch with almost all my friends and school mates since it only took knowing their names in order to find them on Facebook.

After the innovation of Facebook came the 2go app, I can remember how I will go to the school premises during my 100 level days at night in order to read only to find myself chatting with 2go friends and also participating actively in the various 2go rooms. I use to be a very shy and secluded individual but the innovations of these technologies mot only made me feel seen, it also made me feel loved and give me access to everyone in the world who is aware of such technology.

Technology fostered my relationship, I could talk with my girlfriend back in those days for hours, distance was not a barrier as a result of these innovations, while I was schooling in Abuja, my then girlfriend was a student in a different state, I didn’t feel far from her at all times with the result of the help of technology, we could share pictures of ourselves with each other, share our thought through chat, it was like we were always together.

Although, these innovations had their negative effect to our family and social life, studies have shown that these technologies have made us disconnect with people around us, making us give the people around us less of our time as we focus more on our virtual friends. I strongly belief the benefits far outweigh the disadvantages of these technologies.
