POSITIVE EFFECTS OF HOMEWORK

Homework, according to Wikipedia, is a set of tasks assigned to students by their teachers which is to be done at home. It may include reading, writing, and mathematical problem-solving and many more. The importance of this is to help the student revise what he or she has been taught in school on that day's lesson, giving the student an opportunity to practice and have a better understanding of what has learnt.

It also teaches students about responsibilities in their learning process, time management skills, and also helps the teachers to know areas or topics of which the student is lacking. Homework tells the teacher and parent if their child is learning or if he requires a different learning approach to the one he is under going. A lot of students understand better when they go back home to revise. When given homework by teachers in school, it encourages the student to revisit their books and study. This normally helps them to have a better understanding of the topics they learnt on that day in school and also helps them retain knowledge gotten.

Homework also helps a student to develop a good habit of self-learning. With homework, a student will be able to learn how to teach himself and also to study without the assistance of a teacher. The student is also able to understand the best way he is able to learn and also have an idea of which subjects he finds easier and which subjects are difficult to him.

While I was in school, I discovered I learnt better whenever I read through a subject or topic before a class, and also after any class in school, if I got to revise on the topic, I retained it easier and without stress. A teacher who understands this will always give me homework to study ahead for the next class and will always give me homework on the topic learnt for that day to help me practice and retain all knowledge I most have gotten on that day. This didn’t only help me with my studies, it has helped me in life after school to always prepare before any presentation or task, and always revisit what I most have done to check for mistakes and take corrections in areas I know I should. It has made me have an organized life in regards to tasks.

Having to stop kids from a take-home assignment might have its advantages, but the disadvantages far outweigh the advantages. Imagine having to come home from school and have nothing to do as school work. This will discourage the kid from wanting to learn more. A kid that is not given a take-home assignment will only become a lazy student and will not have a passion for learning, since there is nothing that will remind him to study. It will also reduce the ability to be able to manage time and also the application of lessons learnt. When a child doesn’t practice what he has learnt, that child will forget what he was taught easily.
