LITTLE WHITE LIES

I have always been an honest person, often speaking the truth without hesitation. It has been a part of me to always come clean with every situation, not minding what the consequence may be. Although telling a lie sometimes may be helpful, I will always find myself with the truth without even knowing.

A lot of people lie these days just to survive. I know of a set of kids who will always come lying about one thing or another in order to meet a need. They go all out to lie, using their mother's name most times as the most effective tool they've got to get what they need at the moment. Others will con you into doing or giving them things. Lying has not only become a habit to many, it is now a profession to them.

We hear of fraudsters who might have started with small white lies and developed into lying professionally. You will find a person who will come up to you in the morning or anytime of the day, at the same spot every day, saying to you they lack transport at the moment and needs your help to get home or get to a destination. And after you give them what they want, they go on to the next person to tell the same lie. This they may do for hours at that same spot before maybe moving to another spot. Or a woman who will go out of her way to rent some kids and will take them out on the street pretending they are her kids and they need this help or that help, will go as far as using their health to lie just so they get something from people.

While it is unethical and morally wrong to lie, and even worse as a kid to lie to get what you want, it is not something I will subscribe to, and it shouldn't be justified for an excuse of a better good. People lie for a lot of reasons; some is to get what they need at a moment in time, others may lie to protect themselves from harm.

People usually refer to these lies as a white lie, which according to definition is a small or unimportant matter which someone tells to avoid hurting another person. This usually comes from a place of good. Lying is not saying the truth and not being honest to yourself, while being truthful is admirable, as it makes one stand out.

As much as I don't subscribe to lies, as it can only train you to become great at lying and deceit if you can't control yourself, I still think it is necessary sometimes to lie. Imagine a situation where the only thing you can do to save someone's life is to lie, or a situation where the only thing you can do to make a person feel better about themselves is to lie to them. I guess you don't have an option but to say some white lies. What I am saying in essence is don't let it be a part of you, as it may consume you in the long run.
