TOPIC: PRACTICAL IMPLEMENTATION OF OBEDIENCE(part 3)

Obedience includes holiness in all we do (1 Peter 1:15-16).

1 Peter 1:15-16 highlights the connection between obedience and holiness. The verses state, "But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: 'Be holy, because I am holy.'"

Obedience to God involves living a life that is set apart for Him, characterized by holiness. Holiness refers to being dedicated and separated from sin, consecrated to God's purposes and reflecting His character in our thoughts, attitudes, and actions.

Here are a few key aspects related to obedience and holiness:

Conformity to God's Standard:

Obedience requires aligning our lives with God's standard of holiness. As believers, we are called to imitate God, who is holy. This means striving to live in a manner that reflects His purity, righteousness, and love.

Transformation of Character:

Obedience involves allowing the Holy Spirit to transform our character, enabling us to grow in holiness. It requires surrendering our old ways, sinful habits, and selfish desires to pursue a life that reflects God's nature.

Pursuit of Moral Excellence:

Obedience to God's commands necessitates a pursuit of moral excellence in all areas of life. It involves making choices that honor God, seeking integrity, honesty, and righteousness in our relationships, work, and personal conduct.

Sanctification:

Obedience to God's call to holiness is a lifelong journey of sanctification. It involves cooperating with the Holy Spirit's work in our lives, allowing Him to purify our hearts, renew our minds, and conform us to the image of Christ.

Separation from Sin:

Obedience and holiness require separating ourselves from sinful influences and avoiding behaviors that are contrary to God's will. This includes rejecting immoral practices, ungodly entertainment, and any activities that hinder our spiritual growth.

Reflecting God's Love:

Obedience and holiness should be accompanied by love for God and others. Our pursuit of holiness should not lead to self-righteousness or judgementalism but rather to a deepening love for God and a genuine concern for the well-being of others.

Dependence on God's Grace:

Obedience and holiness cannot be achieved in our strength alone. We rely on God's grace, forgiveness, and empowerment to live a holy life. It is through the work of the Holy Spirit within us that we are enabled to live obediently and pursue holiness.

Obedience to God involves living a holy life, set apart for His purposes. It requires conforming to God's standard of holiness, pursuing moral excellence, and allowing the Holy Spirit to transform our character. Obedience and holiness go hand in hand as we seek to reflect God's nature and bring glory to Him in all aspects of our lives.

Obedience results in practicing the humility which our Lord Jesus Christ exampled.(John 13:12 -17; Phil. 2:5-8).

Obedience to God includes practicing the humility exemplified by our Lord Jesus Christ. Both John 13:12-17 and Philippians 2:5-8 highlight the humility of Jesus as an example for us to follow.

In John 13:12-17, Jesus demonstrates humility by washing the feet of His disciples. Afterward, He says, "I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you" (John 13:15). Jesus, being the Son of God, willingly took on the role of a servant, performing a task that was typically done by the lowest of servants. This act of humility teaches us the importance of serving others with a humble heart.

Philippians 2:5-8 further emphasizes the humility of Christ. It states, "In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!"

These verses highlight the incredible humility displayed by Jesus. Despite His divine nature and equality with God, He willingly humbled Himself, taking on the form of a servant and ultimately submitting to death on the cross. Jesus' humility was demonstrated in His willingness to set aside His rights and privileges for the sake of others.

As followers of Christ, we are called to emulate His humility in our own lives. Practicing humility involves:

Serving Others:

Just as Jesus served His disciples, we are called to serve others with a humble attitude. This can be demonstrated through acts of kindness, selflessness, and sacrificial service.

Putting Others First:

Humility involves considering the needs and interests of others above our own. It means setting aside selfish ambition and striving to promote the well-being and success of those around us.

Submitting to God's Will:

Humility includes submitting ourselves to God's will with a trusting and obedient heart. It means recognizing that God's plans and purposes are greater than our own and humbly yielding to His guidance and direction.

Cultivating a Servant's Heart:

Developing a servant's heart involves adopting an attitude of humility in our daily interactions. It means being willing to listen, learn from others, and treat everyone with respect and dignity.

Avoiding Pride and Arrogance:

Humility requires guarding against pride and arrogance, which can hinder our obedience to God. It involves recognizing that all our abilities, gifts, and accomplishments ultimately come from God and should be used for His glory rather than for our own exaltation.

By following the example of Jesus' humility, we demonstrate our love for God and others. Humility is not a sign of weakness but rather a display of strength, character, and trust in God. It enables us to reflect the nature of Christ and cultivate harmonious relationships within the body of Christ and the world around us
