HEAR GOD'S VOICE
Can we still hear the voice of God today? Do Christian leaders have a clear understanding on this issue?
Some believe that God can guide us and provide direction when needed, while others argue that God only speaks to us through the Bible. However, I firmly believe that just as He did in Bible times, God continues to speak to us through His Holy Spirit. What is your belief?
The Pseudepigrapha depicts a group of Pharisees who emerged over 800 years before Christ's birth. This sect believed that all that God would ever say was already conveyed through Moses' writings. Any subsequent prophetic speech or writing was considered invalid by them and they accepted only the first five books of the Bible - nothing more! It appears that many church leaders adhere to similar beliefs nowadays (with some modifications).
For instance, modern-day "theological Pharisees" teach that God communicates with us solely via what is written in the Bible; beyond this, He no longer speaks. While it is true that the Bible is a finished book and nobody should dare add anything to its Canon of Scripture, considering our present-day situation, believing in a DUMB GOD (one who cannot speak) constitutes an enormous theological mistake.
Many people are willing to defend what God said centuries ago but refuse Him when he "speaks [presently in our day and time] from heaven'"(Heb. 12:25). We are urged seven times throughout Revelation 2:7-3:22 saying, "He who has an ear let him hear what the Spirit saith [present tense] unto the Church."
THE IMPORTANCE OF LISTENING
Jesus Christ stated, "… Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word which proceedeth out of mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).
The term "proceedeth" signifies an ongoing function implying something occurring during past events also persists into present circumstances and will continue into future ones.
This verse could be translated as follows: "Man …lives…by every word spoken both previously as well as presently proceeding from God's mouth." Thus far-reaching implications arise for those who comprehend its significance since if one grasps it correctly then one realizes how important it becomes listening intently for His Word.
GOD DOES NOT REMAIN SILENT
It does not mean we should add anything new or supplement existing scripture; I do NOT advocate such action at all. However, the scriptures do indicate clearly enough how much Father desires for His people "to dwell in, and walk-in" (2 Cor.6:16), living epistles known and read by mankind (2 Cor.3:2-3). We need desperately attention paid closely upon hearing His voice so we might obtain life lived abundantly within our churches today which comes solely from hearing every single utterance emanating directly from God’s heart.
1.To Discern The Will Of Our God Almighty
Every church leader confronts this question: What does my Lord expect me specifically to execute, and where must I rely exclusively upon Him? Where exactly does my responsibility end precisely so my Lord's begins?
On one hand, the Bible declares:
Not by might nor power, but by My Spirit says Jehovah Almighty (Zech.4:6).
Some assert this implies leaving everything up entirely onto divine intervention without doing any work whatsoever ourselves. On another hand however, Jesus stated quite plainly, "That servant which knew his lord’s will,…did not according thereto…shall be beaten with many stripes" (Luke 12:47).
This makes it crystal-clear regarding each individual's obligation towards comprehending their respective duties assigned under Heavenly authority thereby taking requisite actions accordingly. So how may we reconcile these two seemingly contradictory concepts between Divine sovereignty alongside church leaderships' responsibilities concerning implementing God's wishes?
By reexamining Jesus’ words once again, this dilemma evaporates completely. “That servant which knew his lord’s will,…did not according thereto… shall be beaten with many stripes" (Luke 12:47).
Jesus contrasts this idea with knowing absolutely nothing about their masters wants. “That servant...knew not…and shall be beaten with few stripes” (v.48). Either way, you get punished. If you know yet do nothing OR if you don't know AND don't act accordingly!
Our Heavenly Father seeks after church leaders possessing knowledge along with taking appropriate measures towards fulfilling His wishes. The Will Of Our Creator establishes limits surrounding our specific areas responsible for overseeing. Should any person remain ignorant He judges less severely though judging nonetheless. To take action aligning oneself harmoniously requires direct comprehension on behalf remaining attentive, listening attentively toward receiving instruction spoken forthrightly from Heaven above.
