The Fat Wedge Savings Strategy.....
Money's a bit tight this summer so I've set myself what I call the bog roll challenge!
It's a simple challenge - trying to get through summer without buying any more bog roll...
I mean it's quite expensive for what is, after all: paper you wipe your arse with.
Not all bog rolls are equal and I think it's false economy to buy the cheapest... Tescos do these for around £0.75 a roll or £0.16 for 100 sheets - but honestly I've never heard of anyone using just one single sheet of bog roll.
I figure I get through around 2 rolls a month, so that's £1.50 a month which is actually 0.1% of my basic needs! 1/1000 of roughly what I need every month.
So it's a sliver rather than a chunk but a slither done the less!
The fat wedge savings strategy...
While I'd rather have fat wedges of cash I'm settling this summer for accumulating fat wedges of bog roll....
Basically every time I go for a piss in an institutional toilet I pocket a fat wedge of bog roll for later use at home.
I wear cargo trousers as standard and side pockets are perfect for this.
And essentially bog roll is provided for free for institutional attendees so I think this is fair enough.
It's a bit annoying having to unfold the wedges for use at home but worth it to save myself 0.15% of my monthly outgoings!
Not too much of a pain in the ass!
If I can just find another 5 replacements like this of equal value I'm up to 1% of my income saved which is the interim goal!
Noice!
Sounds like a solid plan. 😂👍🏼 It might be cheaper to buy a ton of Zimbabwean dollars instead of tp for your bung hole 😂😂👍🏼
😁 - great first read of the day!
Cheers! I just wish it wasn't serious!
I agree, but I like the irony that some money is so cheap you can use it as toilet paper to save other money.
Good shout!
This is a good strategy you are putting in place and i hope it works well. In this current time time, one has to devise series of monetary plans to make them stay up and moving. Great one you have shared.

The value added tax of such products was increased this month in my country. We bought so many before the increase, however I use the bidet stick mostly. I think it is not widespread in Europe.
All part of the plan I assume - of course you cld combine that with this!
I remember as a student that some people would pinch bog rolls from the Poly facilities. That's why most places use dispensers these days.
We are using the products from Who Gives A Crap lately. It may be more expensive, but they try to make a difference.
BTW I think some people do waste a lot of toilet paper judging from the frantic unspooling I hear in some public loos. I mostly get by with a couple of sheets per visit. Wipe, fold, repeat :)
Anyway, this post will pay for a few months.
Horrible about the poly victim! I'm sure punlic loo roll is severely abused.
I'll get back to being ethical when my income picks up!
You'd think they'd have little handipacks to take away, wouldn't you?
There was one charity I worked with which hired-out rooms including toilet and kitchen facilities. Very soon after starting this service, they told clients they would have to supply their own toilet rolls as the amount of toilet roll that was being used(liberated) was exceeding anything they were making on the venue booking. At Leicestershire County Council, Libraries investigated a huge unknown cost that appeared in their spreadsheet each month and discovered they had been paying for toilet rolls for a community centre which also got through extraordinary amounts of the stuff. I'm guessing you're not alone.
I agree with your strategy, though, saving where you can. We've often had no-buy (or low-buy, more accurately) month in Saturday Savers Club, when savers make do and you use up what you've got. We've never (openly) investigated liberating items, but perhaps we should add that to the repetoire.
I didn't think I'd be alone! Hilarious response!
Maybe grow your own tea.
