Labour Not Battling in South Herefordshire...?!?
So the local constituency literature is starting to drop through the door, and I was mildly surprised to see this used as ammo on the Lib Dem leaflet...
That the local area is NOT a key battleground seat.
I have no doubt this is probably on some kind of list somewhere online, as it's alluded to here in this Labour List article but if you do a search for 'Labour Non Battle Ground Seats' you get a 404 returned.
This implies the 'list' has been removed.
That makes total sense, I mean it's good sense to target those seats with less of a swing required to win, but there's little to be gained from publicizing this fact.
It just comes across as cold, calculating, lazy, doing just enough to win but no more, maybe lacking in confidence, to declare publicly you are NOT contesting a whole load of seats, at least not seriously!
You may as well have a crack at a wider range of seats, it gives the impression of a more up-for-it and confidence party.
Although in reality....
South Herefordshire is rank 286 in terms of swing needed....
And Labour only need to win around 120 additional seats as well as keeping all of their current ones to form a majority government, and up there you're looking at only 11% swing required.
So it does make sense to target, but be quiet about it, maybe!
I still think Labour is the party to vote for...
Based on the last election results...
Labour were still second, Lib Dems were nowhere.
The last time the LDs won was 2005, that is 20 years ago, different times, and I don't think they've recovered yet, I think this year it is about Labour.
And the local Labour candidate is a teacher, which makes me more inclined to vote for him!

All the parties tend to be cagey about their actual strategy. They have to say they will fight for every seat, but the budget is limited and a lot of them won't swing. We're in a very Tory area, but the boundary is shifting. It's frustrating when you know your vote is unlikely to make a difference, but I always vote. It's going to be an interesting election for sure.

Labour seem to be sticking to their 'say as little as possible strategy' it's depressing given that it's probably going to be the winning strategy!
I suspect they are playing it safe, but I hope they will be more radical when they get in.

To be honest, it's interesting how parties strategize for elections. I agree, seeing Labour as the more proactive choice this year. Plus, having a local candidate who's a teacher definitely adds credibility. Time for a change indeed big bro
